Mage staves are typically set to a mix of percentages between damage types. Whether it be some combination of fire/asphyxiation or electric/cold, you can tune the staff to alter the percentages and make your attack suit your needs.

So, if say, you're hunting something that's weak to cold, but resistant to electric, you can tune your staff to 0% electric and 100% cold, making it a pure cold damage attack that isn't resisted.

Fascinating. I thought resistances were only for PvP. Is there some sort of comprehensive list of which monsters are resistant to which?
Ardmore2012-08-11 13:43:05
Which is totally opposite, imo.

Green for go!

Tell you what, provide me with some nice, yummy (new) data, and I guess I could change it if there was enough support for such a change.
Xenthos2012-08-11 21:01:20
Green for weakness, red for resistance works for me; that's the way I interpreted it at least.
Shamarah2012-08-12 00:10:09
Aeromancer tuning isn't actually that good for bashing because not many mobs have serious cold/electric weaknesses.

In Icewynd you're actually better off just using elementalism blast.
Unknown2012-08-12 00:25:53
At least I know what to avoid now, hmhm.
Shamarah2012-08-12 01:06:38
Actually Icewynd is still really really good because blast does like double damage to the ice creatures - Aeros actually do it better than most classes since most classes don't have a 100% fire attack, which blast is. Just don't try hitting them with your cold staff...
Unknown2012-08-12 09:17:49
Hmm, in that case, how hard is Icewynd? I'm a lvl 80 Cloud Trill with no reflexes(or systems).
Unknown2012-08-12 10:46:57
You'll die. Very quickly.
Ardmore2012-08-12 15:35:32
It's a piece of cake.
Unknown2012-08-12 16:27:37
We're demi, Ardmore. I tried it earlier as a level 80 Nihi and got wasted. Immediately.
Ardmore2012-08-12 16:30:51
That's because you suck. Squint and avoid winds. Might not be able to kill everything in sight but each devil is worth more in xp than anything in Muud, except maybe a globule. Even killing half of it's huge.
Enyalida2012-08-12 16:35:42
Wow.

Anyways, without a system, I wouldn't go after Icewynd, even as a lvl 80, it's too easy to make a misstep, and even when you don't it's fairly slow going. I generally find it more worth the time to hunt slightly less challenging areas and go for quantity. Once you're upkeeping 3/4 karma blessings, get the throne (or Tosha) h/m/e boost, it might be more worth the effort/time to go after a place like Icewynd and hope you find larva.
Ardmore2012-08-12 16:50:22
Oh he doesn't have a system. :| That's different. My mistake...

To further my reasoning, doing bigger mobs is 1) more fun, 2) worth more 3) if you die you've made up soooooo much more than doing a handful of smaller mobs.
Live a little. :/
Unknown2012-08-12 18:56:36
Well, at any rate, what are other good places for me to hunt in?
Xiel2012-08-12 19:47:36
With a cold and electric primary attack? Kephera in the hives if Hallifax allows them. Mugwump in the Asylum. Krokani in the Moors. Maggots in the Waste Storage Facility. Scorpions, abhorrences, eagles, goats on Astral (especially with Aero passive curing).

A lot of places, really. That chart linked earlier was a bit incomplete, but a good start. I guess sometime, I'll make an equivalent of it for my own little project.
Shamarah2012-08-12 20:32:20
Well if you can't handle Icewynd there's no way you can handle linking Astral at a high enough rate to make it worth doing over something else.
Enyalida2012-08-12 21:03:29
Agreed. Astral is another one of those places that I don't really see as worth it unless you have a really great bash rate/are very tanky. All of those other places seem like good leads though!
