Nightmares of Insanity: Part IV The Ties That Bind by Ialie
Runner Up for June 2005
Three shades appeared to me,
Deep within the night,
Their forms gathered hauntingly,
Kept aloft by candlelight,
Erion, the Faeslayer,
Walked in my waking dreams,
Daevos, the Warlord,
Wasn't what he seemed,
Murphy, the Forbidden Love,
He had his duties still,
The bloodshed, the war,
Too much he loved the kill,
These figures they surrounded me,
Floating near my bed,
But trembling I knew,
They existed only in my head,
They whispered things to me,
I tried to listen not,
But insistently they spoke,
Regardless of how I fought,
"Ialie", hissed the shades,
"You can't escape us now"
"You sealed your fate with us"
"When you spoke your final vow"
"I made no vow!" I screamed,
"This isn't making sense"
I quivered there in fear,
Losing confidence,
The shade of Murphy smiled,
And stepped forward from the two,
Although it looked like him,
I knew it wasn't true,
"Ialie" he said,
"My love don't you see,
"You've been mine every since"
"You made your vow to me"
"Soon" Whispered Erion,
The light kept him at bay,
"You dine and drink with me"
"Fat on blood of fae"
"You'll far march with me."
Daevos whispered then,
"Killing all you see"
"And delighting in the sin"
"No" I moaned,
As I clutched the candle tight,
Not caring if I burned,
Within the safety of the light,
"Come Ialie" they whispered,
"And let the light be free,"
":Open your mind and soul to us"
"Embrace insanity"
Suddenly I flinched,
The flame had burned my hand,
Making me aware,
It was not a dream that I was in,
My heart pounded rapidly,
I was overcome with fear,
Already losing reason,
As these shades floated near,
I shuddered in the night,
My mind caught in doubt,
And quietly I whimpered,
As my candlelight went out.
