Handful of Earth to a Geomancer by Athana

Merit for June 2006

Damp and laden in the palm
A tale of death and truthful psalm
Great years of life held in time
The minor chords of sorrow's rhyme.

Twisting with life anew
Crisp and wet, dusky dew.
Horizon rising overhead
A handful of dirt to bury the dead.

Fossilized in time and tucked away
Is life's final bed to lay.
Steeped in dirt shadowed, alone.
The clattering sounds of silence atone.

As beneath the Earth you lie still
Of what loving truths did you fill?
Your choice in life's breath spent
Into the deepest chasms will your soul be sent.
