Have You? by Lowe
Runner Up for June 2006
Have you seen the way the great, black dragons mate?
No longer viscous beasts,
But passionate lovers,
Melting the air around them.
Entwined.
They float about the aether.
Have you seen the wonders
Of the heart?
Have you seen the death of an ancient star?
At its peak of power,
Invulnerable, unbreakable, unchanging.
Suddenly sagging inwards,
A spiral of white light whips outwards.
In place of a star,
Are particles of light bleeding into nothing.
Have you seen the wonders
Of beauty?
Have you felt the nihility of the void?
The beautiful and utterly
Horrifying experience
Of
Being, hearing, sensing and seeing
Nothing.
Nothing but yourself,
For time unending.
Have you felt the wonders
Of being?
Have you, my Lord?
The young seeker of the third way
Asked
The First Wanderer.
I have.
I have journeyed through
Planes of existence
Which would break any mortal’s
Will.
I have.
I have wandered
The very universe,
Feeling the seems
Of reality
Ring around me.
I have.
I have seen things that
No mortal shall ever be ready
To see.
I have.
I have seen the wonders of existence.
