A Faerie Tale by Vix

Runner Up for September 2006

Tzarin 4 - Sunny

How boring. I have to sit here and write in this silly journal all because
some passing fae knight saw me carrying my stolen goods. It wasn't even that
valuable and I only stole it for fun! Pity Perriwinkle's lantern was so bright
and gave my position away in the treetops! So because of this, Queen Maeve
thinks I have too much time to spend on "frivolous activities" and has made me
the Royal Recorder - what a pointless job this is. She didn't specify what I
had to write though, hehe!

Tzarin 5 - Sunny
- - - - - - - - -
Grr! Denied my rations today and forced to sit down with this quill
because they caught me shirking my supposed duties. That lady knight that keeps
losing her shield because she's so unobservant was the one who saw me running
off - ME, the greatest pickpocket in Faethorn! Makes me feel so... ugh,
insulted! Now I have to sit down again with those guards breathing down my
neck, always listening for my quill's skritchy scratchy. Just now one of them
yelled at me because I stopped writing for a brief moment! The nerve! I really
can't think of much to write though, so I'll just give an account of my day
before I was caught in order to make those knights think I'm actually writing
something.
Let's see... I woke up, had my morning honeycake fresh stolen off of
Butter Sweetpease's cooling tray, and remembered I had this stupid journal
duty. Tossed this book into one of the burning buildings and went on my merry
way to visit a friend Mani's house. She's a nymph so she lives in the treetops
on the far side of Faethorn. Sometimes I feel sorry for her since she doesn't
have the joy of flying like us sprites! I then had some honeycakes and tea at
her house before heading to the Leptomaniac's Club for our monthly meetings.
That pompous leprechaun they elected Chairman last year had better watch out
for his position because I'm going to take it come next elections! After
leaving the meeting, that's when they caught me and threw me at this desk with
this book which annoyingly enough hadn't burned. So that's what happened today
and I have nothing more to write. I guess I'll just make random markings until
the guards or I fall asleep. Shouldn't take too long as they're already
yawning.

...Hello, book. They've sat me down again - rather forcibly I might add. This
is worse than my tah'vrai last year! It happened sometime around Roarkian when
the New Moon rose. Every fae knows when they must complete their tah'vrai and
the pressure was building on me at that time. A saw a scary looking fae that
wasn't really a fae. He has large bat-like wings and glowing red eyes and was
much, much larger than me. I gave him a respectful greeting and let him know
that it was time for my tah'vrai. He understood and said these terrible words
which cut into me and made me feel horrible. I couldn't help noticing this
sickly scarab he was carrying too and it seemed like I was hypnotized. He took
me to Glomdoring and this huge black hound even scarier than the fae thing that
brought me there. I was shackled with shadows and forced to follow this other
fae-like-but-not-fae thing throughout the Prime Material Plane - a plane which
we fae are seldom allowed to visit. I wasn't there to sightsee though, I
couldn't move any limb of my body - not even my eyes! The shadows forced me to
channel my mana into the fae thing so I ended up with a huge headache after I
was finished. After the fae thing dismissed me, I ended up in the Ethereal
Glomdoring again, but I wasn't sticking around for that ordeal again! I fled at
midnight and collapsed back on the familiar ground of Faethorn.
And wow, I can't believe I sat here doing nothing but writing for about an
hour. I'll admit I've been wanting to get that story out of me for some time
though. Feels rather good now after letting it all go. Looks like the guards
are asleep again too! I wonder what Maeve would do to their honeycomb rations
after seeing this! At least she can't take mine away today since I've done my
silly job.

Here I am again today. I figured I'd go ahead and get this over with in
the morning so I can free up my afternoon and not have to encounter any guards.
I just woke up and had my morning honeycake - again nicked off of Butter's
cooling tray. I still don't see how those empty headed leprechauns at the
Leptomanic's Club look the other way at my excellent thievery skills. They're
probably racist or think the only point of stealing is to make a profit. My
philosophy on burglary is to just have fun and make your victims look like
fools for not keeping a close enough eye on their goods! Nil, you could even do
both at the same time. That Goldie leprechaun I often hear rumors about seems to
be having a rousing business of theft and having the time of his life at once.
But then again, he has a special permit from Maeve to stay on the Prime
Material Plane and steal gold from foolish elfen of Serenwilde. I'd personally
like to visit Serenwilde at some point and see just how rich those mortals are.
Maybe I could sneak off sometime...

Heehee! I've done it! I've gotten into the Serenwilde, or at least the
Ethereal reflection of Serenwilde. I saw this really handsome elfen in Faethorn
today and asked him to take me under the care of Mother Moon. I think he likes
me as much as I do to him as he said these beautiful words and made me feel so
wonderful. I sigh just thinking about him now. After speaking with me I saw
this beautiful white shimmering flower he was holding and just had to follow
him. He introduced me to this lovely woman named Luna who gave me a kiss on my
forehead and sent me off into the forest. Now I'm having a great time romping
through the various seasons all at once. Each corner of this reflection of the
Serenwilde Forest seems to represent one of the four seasons they experience on
the Prime Material Plane. The sky down there is just as mischievous as me! Too
bad the Ethereal sky is always sunny. I'd like to fly through the rain more
often.
And I just realized I'm writing in this journal even though the guards
aren't around to poke me with their lances and yell at me to get back to work.
I can't believe I just sat here wasting my time! Raindrops here I come!

Today's my second day in the Serenwilde. Sometime around noon a progeny of
Bollikin summoned me down and asked me to care for his mana, which I happily
obliged. This time I wasn't forced and the headache wasn't nearly as bad though
still painful. He dismissed me and let me roam the Serenwilde again so here I
am. I had some great fun with snow and this ground-bound pigwidgeon and

By the Tree! I'm so shaken! I can barely write this now. I heard a noise
to the north and went to see what it was. Oh goodness! I don't know if I can
continue writing in this state.

I think I've calmed down just a bit. When I went to investigate I saw this
huge army of armor clad merians and angels marching towards Luna's grove. A
great many elfen gathered at the Moonhart Mother Tree along with that furrikin
who called me earlier. They rushed to Luna's aid but were halted by walls and
huge balls of ice which fell from the sky not at all pleasing like the snow I
flew through before. One merian gave the word, nodding to his angel, and the
whole horde stepped forward at Luna. I couldn't watch any longer and flew away
in fear. There's nothing in Luna's grove now but a silver mirror and lots of
blood. It makes me sick to think about it. I can't write any more.

Tzarin 10 - Rainy

What has the world come to? Why would anyone slay such a beautiful and
caring woman like Luna? I couldn't stay in Serenwilde any longer. I returned to
Faethorn where for the first time in centuries the sky has cried. Maybe I don't
want to fly through the rain.

Tzarin 11 - Rainy

I don't feel like writing today either. At least Maeve's guards have
stopped bothering me. I think I'll go and cry myself to sleep again.

Tzarin 12 - Rainy
- - - - - - - - -
Today wasn't much better either. Everyone in Faethorn is still all worked
up over what happened to Luna. I did see that handsome elfen pass through
Faethorn again, but I hid myself.

Tzarin 13 - Sunny
- - - - - - - - -
The sky has let up now and I'm feeling a little cheerier than usual. I
stole Perriwinkle's knitting needle today just for old time's sake and no one's
caught me yet. I've hid it in the best possible hiding spot too where no one
will ever find it!
Although thieving does make me feel better, I think looking over what
happened will do more. I've resolved myself to go to the Serenwilde again.

Tzarin 14 - Sunny, Rainy, Snowy, and Windy again

I saw him again! That hunk of an elfen! He praised me again today and I
followed. To my surprise, Luna had returned! Apparently she was only taken into
the bosom of Mother Moon - not dead. The elfen worked hard to return her to her
rightful spot it seems. The handsome elfen must've worked especially hard! I
was pleased when he called me down to the Prime plane for my aid and this time
I didn't get a headache! It was such a pleasure to watch his every movement as
he battled off fierce creatures which threatened the innocents. I was even
there when he confronted the leader of the raiding party which sent Luna away
and gave a little cheer as he met a toady death. When night fell I took him for
a little moonlight flight although he had to use a besom seeing as he wasn't
gifted with wings like me. He even gave me a honeycake before he dismissed me!
Now that is the way to win a lady's heart!

Tzarin 15 - Sunny, Rainy, Snowy, and Windy

What a day, what a day! My elfen beau summoned me again for another trip
through the Prime Material Plane. After looking him over, I have determined him
perfect for my hearth mate. Tomorrow I'll make a quick trip to Faethorn for
Maeve's blessing and perform the Mushroom Dance with him. Not many fae are
privileged enough to meet a progeny of Elfenehoala and become the source of new
life - life blessed by Maeve to flourish and fly and be cared for. The mortals
call them faelings. I am truly blessed.

It is done. Her name is Manya, after her mother. I am too tired to write
much more today. Tired but absolutely elated.

In honor of my new child, Maeve has discharged me from my position as
Royal Recorder so that I may care for her! This will be my last entry before
some new Recorder takes my place. I hear a particularly mischievous brownie has
been putting tacks on the royal throne. I’ll have to remember that for later.
