Permutation of Night's Liturgies by Cyndol
Runner Up for December 2006
Hail Night, Mother of Darkness;
Attend to us, your Midnight Coven.
As your rival has three faces,
So too, give us three paths
We may walk to stand against her.
As your enemy rules the waking hours,
Give us dreams that we may be nightmares
Against his thrones and powers.
~
I walk among the moonless Night
To know myself as Night knows shadow.
I walk free of harrowing.
I lie in wait for lantern light
And those whose faith’s in shiny marbles.
Only those who walk in bright
Fear darkness, deserve my mocking.
~
I am the dark, and I am the wood.
I am vast, and I am immune
To the quibbling threats and injury
Of those unfortunates too foolish
To realize they do not exist.
But if I deign to notice them
That is my choice,
And then I am the shadow fine razor
Kissing their throats.
Do not forget,
F’ai Glomdoring.
~
The shadow walks mutable and universal;
The spider both waits and cultivates opportunity;
So too shall you.
~
For the right question,
To the right questioner,
The dead can give up their secrets.
Honor the Quiet Folk,
Their knowledge, their customs.
Their eyes see, their ears hear,
What others,
Even willing,
Cannot.
~
Perfect and brutal and pure
Is the bloodlust,
A delicacy of iron for fae,
A virtue of cunning
And white caps dipped
Like white bread.
Honor our bothers,
Their immaculate passions,
Who take in light
As though this night were the last.
~
The wind stalks cold,
A dissonant blare of brash trumpets
Up the spine,
A relentless howl
That tickles the brain
Petrifying blood and bone.
Honor Night’s hunters,
The restless, clarion shadows.
Honor their prey,
Who heard nothing,
Not even tearing flesh.
~
Embrace me with a blessing of darkness.
Let my name be forgotten;
Let my hands be unseen;
Let my actions be yours.
~
I seek you in shadows
And among the fields of war.
Teach me the way,
Count me among your murder,
That my enemies may know me,
Horror.
