The Ballad of Captain Vlath Symfale by Abethor

Merit for February 2007

On the isle of aged splendor
Visage of a broken spectre
Mourning song
Sad and long
Chillèd soul inside to render.

Opal waves caress the near shore
A finger grasping at the core
Lost empire
To admire
Sighing aloud their ancient lore.

Dropping brandy onto his bones
As the Captain’s ship creaks and groans
Come to life
Loose your strife
Muurelt, your lover, weeps and moans.

An echo of a time untold
When the old streets were new with gold
Sacrifice
Tainted vice
Melancholy words do unfold.

Down the liquid goes through his throat
Excess splashing over the boat
Alcohol
Shrieks a call
Standing proudly in Captain’s coat.

Story of a weathered seaman
Wistful eyes they are a gleamin’
Salty spray
Cloudy day
Reminiscing and a dreamin’.

The cheerful songs and melody
Guardian of the Crystal Sea
Days since past
‘Tis the last
The final voice of history.

Standing under billowing sail
Singing out the wise sailor’s tale
Wishful thought
Is for naught
We salute thee Cap’n Vlath Symfale!
