Fall of Viernant by Elva
Runner Up for April 2007
Many days have been lost so far,
Under the light of the Northern Star,
Trapped in the city of their fathers,
They fight on.
The hordes of evil will not relent,
And yet their king will not repent,
He fights for his land and the people,
Viernant, the King.
Refrain:
Many days have been lost so far,
Under the light of the Northern Star,
Fight on my brethren,
Ride the waves of victory!
In the darkness there is rising,
A terror beyond all knowing,
Avatar of blood and hate,
It has one target.
On the mighty marble walls,
He watches as his city falls,
To the might of one only known as,
Lord Eviscarlre.
(Repeat Refrain)
Hands rest on the mighty horn,
On waves of steel he shall be borne,
This is the final victory,
The horn rings out!
Now summoned from the depths of hell,
The Avatar of the lands of fell,
With one stroke he fells the man,
Viernant, the King.
(Repeat Refrain)
But all is not lost or in vain,
Look around, rising again,
The King draws his sword,
And the Avatar is no more.
He turns now to the field,
Striking out with sword and shield,
He confronts a new enemy,
The Lord Eviscarlre
(Repeat Refrain)
All heads now turn to watch the fight,
But they are soon lost from sight,
Amidst the flying dust,
Only one shall live.
The sword comes down silent as the night,
And ends the reign of Viernant’s might,
The warriors all see the king fall,
All is lost now.
(Repeat Refrain)
Yet high in the black-lit sky,
A force does see the king die,
And strikes out with all its might,
Vengeance will be done.
A call is sent from the Northern Star,
And it is answered from afar,
A beam of destruction sweeps the field,
And rests on Lord Eviscarlre.
(Repeat Refrain)
Bridge:
No one knows how it began,
But in the flash of light that shook the field,
Everyone could see how it ended.
Look up into the far and never,
Viernant will rest there forever.
The blackened bodies of the war,
Lie forgotten.
Many days have been lost so far,
Under the light of the Northern Star,
Trapped in the city of their fathers,
They fight on.
This Ballad details the fall of another city and civilization to the Soulless
God's and their lackeys. Though the names and places are long forgotten, and
names have been changed, the legend of one force that resisted more than all
the others still rings true to this day.
