The Terror Coven by Moriana

Merit for April 2007

The witching hour has fallen, and the new moon
Sheds darkness on a land already swathed in shadows.
In silence, Shadowdancers gather in a quest for blood
Linking hands and joining power to form a terror coven
Together calling down the wrath of Mother Night
Upon their enemies and destroying them with a kiss.

For, as any true Shadowdancer knows, a kiss
Can be far deadlier than a blade. When the moon
Falls into darkness, then the followers of Night
Arise from the shrouds of their mistress' shadows.
In a circle they meet to unleash the fury of the coven
Seeking out their enemies and spilling their blood.

Far away, a Moondancer might suddenly taste blood
In his mouth and feel the touch of a death-cold kiss
Before he falls, slain by the merciless terror coven
Bereft of the aid and protection of the absent moon.
Soon other victims have been claimed by the shadows
Their souls sacrificed to bring glory to Mother Night.

Death comes swiftly for those branded by the kiss of night.
Once their name is whispered, then their heart's blood
Becomes nothing more than a feast for hungry shadows.
Never again will they feel the wind or know a lover's kiss
Or dance beneath the shining beams of the moon
Unless the Fates show them more mercy than did the coven.

But then, only a fool expects mercy from a terror coven
For they embody the dark power of Mother Night
Forever in opposition to the followers of the Moon.
Between the two flows a great river of spilled blood
Too long and deep to be spanned by peace's kiss
Too terrible to be consigned to memory's shadows.

As the night wears on, the diminishing shadows
Signal an end to the labours of the terror coven.
When the sky begins to glow with Father Sun's kiss
The gathered Shadowdancers bid farewell to the night
Having satisfied their desire for their enemies' blood
And vanish into the wyrden wood till the next new moon.

Though the shadows may fade as day supplants the night
Beware the Shadowdancer's kiss that drains your life's blood
Beware the might of the terror coven beneath the new moon.
