The Paladin by Twilxo
Merit for October 2007
Its argent gleam glinting in golden sunset light
Its edge fading into infinite nothingness,
Held by a gauntleted hand, plated claws curling round the grip
The Paladin’s sword, blessed by the Crusaders holy flame.
He stands atop the green-crested hill
Looking out upon the red-scourged sea
An eye filled with pitiable tears
The Paladin, mourning the loss of ocean’s purity.
A tainted creature, twisted by the insidious touch of Kethuru
Crawls, half dead, body weeping with accumulated waste
Speared with that blessed blade, the gift of death all left to it
The Paladin, murdering to free its once-pure spirit.
Dark melodies, tendrils of twisted madden notes
Stream towards Him, malice infused with each pluck
They crash into His body, inflaming every sense with pain
The Paladin, attacked by the tainted Cacophony
Rising, His eyes blazing with star-fueled fury
The flame-blessèd blade curving in an argent arc
Biting into the twisted flesh of His foe
The Paladin, rising to the coward’s challenge.
Sanguine life force staining its once-pure surface
The inimical blade cutting deep into tainted foe
Franticly bestowed salve unable to prevent
The Paladins critical wounds upon His foe
With a strident sound of shredded air
And a spray of crimson vitality
His foe’s head sundered from its body
The Paladin, freeing another Tainted soul.
