Thoughts on an Endless Sea by Kalisan
Runner Up for April 2008
I can see an endless sea stretching far and wide,
From the starry-eyed reflections in its depths I cannot hide.
The elemental water feels slick against my skin,
Oily power swirling, seeks an opening to creep within.
I cannot see an end to this, this great and starry sea,
My arms are flailing wildly, I'm swimming frantically.
Forcing calm I slow my breath, an endeavour in persistence,
Swimming to a star I choose, far up in the distance.
I can see the silver stars, those mocking, winking eyes
Reflected in the inky depths, from dark and blackened skies.
"You'll never leave!", they're telling me, gazes striking to my soul.
"Eternity with us in this great and starry hole!"
I cannot see a way to home, my eyes squeezed shut with fear,
A ray of hope is what I need to make things seem more clear.
To Shakiniel, i lift my voice, to Methrenton the same.
With hope and courage I will fight back and win this darkened game.
I can see the silvery sand! My journey home's a whirl.
Remind me, never, ever again, to touch that Planes-damned Pearl!
