Children's rhymes from Magnagora by Othero

Merit for September 2008

The children of Magnagora are often seen singing and laughing with odd and
sometimes silly rhymes. What follows is a small collection displaying four of
those rhymes. The first rhyme is used as a skip-rope rhyme that the children
play with. The second appears to have existed before the Taint, the last lines
being change after the Taint. The third teaches the origins of Lady Nifilhema.
The last serves as a warning for the children.

Spectres floating on the Isle
Spectres floating on the sea
Spectres floating in a vial
How many spectres do we need?

One spectre, two spectre, three spectre, four
Six spectres, seven spectres, eight spectres more
Nine spectre, ten spectre, eleven spectre, twelve
As many spectres as we can hold!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fatalist staring in the sky
something passing past his eye

watching the stars for what they hold
explaining the ways they mold

twisting and turning us all
as the fates control our fall.

Lady Nifilhema was the queen
And grew a white flower so pristine

Until she cut her face and breast
Cutting the flower to match her chest

She used a knife and she used her hands
And the Amaranth bled into the land

She strung it up with golden hooks
As her dark followers looked

And the blood now falls down hot
Staining red, every spot

My parents had a child and that was me
They said I was perfect as could be

But I had a brother who could not read
So they placed him where he could not be seen

Then I had a sister who looked unlike me
She was as unbearable as could be

So we placed a mask on her face
And had her work everyday

And if I do not learn to clean
Myself and keep everything neat

They will be unable to keep
Me in their home
