For the Lady by Lyrinae

Merit for October 2008

A single dewdrop
Glistening on the gossamer web
Seemingly devoid of life;
Only a reflection in the water
Reveals the smiling spider.

The darkened leaves
Lie dank and rotting on the ground
Amongst the decaying mosses;
Only the footsteps trodden black
Reveal the presence that walked there.

The velvet roses
Scent the air sweetly,
Yet their true merit
Lies in the hands that caressed them,
The lips that blessed them,

The lady of the glimmering webs,
The midnight rose within the Glomdoring,
The Lady Viravain.

Others vie for favours
From my lady's lips,
Enough for me to touch the roses
That my lady kissed.
