A Crime in Stewartsville by Alysi

Merit for February 2009

A blade hissing in twilight, slicing through fog
thin ribbons spiraling down, down
lying in a heap on the stone floor
A splash of morphite, dormant sleep
restraining victims captive in a dreamless
prison of incapacitation and indolence
A paranoid dementia overtaking minds
of those under roof, fingers pointing at suspicion
but the guilty prevail in reticence
A macabre morning, shrouded in deceit
while servants continue with routine
duties, folding blood-stained linens
A lethargic inquisition led by a small river
resulting in no finalities, an absence
lacking sufficient charismatic appeal
A testimony without an alibi emerges
unearthed from past histories, buried
beneath troubled hearts alike in sin
A harsh accusation succeeded in earnest
by defensive rebuttal, secondary to
truth and its inherent punishment
A polychromous scintillation of judgement
and hindering bindings repress
the perpetrator as verdict remains imminent
A curtain slides into obscurity, revealing
regality in a figure blessed by divinity -
by unbiased hands of Fate
A prestigious honour laced with praise,
adulation abundant yielding benediction
for the acclaimed aspirations of sleuths
A case closed.
