Warm and safe the baby lies.
Feast of carmine, tears of red,
the ravens honour all the dead.

Droning sacred ancient hymns,
the music of the buzzing wings.

Cuddled safe in lifeless arms,

The Counting Song

One baby in the market, crying for his mother.
Two children in the water, looking for the other.
Three girls dancing, singing songs,
Four boys playing, chasing frogs.

One more round and then it's done.

Four little em'rald frogs, slimy poisoned skin.
Three hungry gravediggers, listen to the din.
Two seawolves hunting, circling round.
One mutt slinking, hears the sound.

The Engine

Every cog must turn, my love.
Every gear must play a part.
When they will not turn, my dove,
The engine will not start.

If the engine will not start,
What then shall we do?
We must find that stubborn part,
And replace it with one new.
