The Rite of Expiation by Karel

Merit for August 2009

Now draw a circle in the Earth
And stand inside the center there
And stand as those about you glare
These Geomancers, too-aware

Now bow your head and stop and wish
Before your weakest moment was
Before you gave in to your flaws
And know that you've broken these laws

Then take a razor-edge flint piece
And cut into your palm so deep
And cut through flesh, and wail and weep
A blades-mark towards your final sleep.

Then say the ancient mage's prayer
Beg and plead for purity
Yes, beg, and have no surety
And wait in insecurity.

And will the Earth Lords hear your prayer?
They've larger things to look into,
They've better things to hear than you
Too small, are you, to make anew.

And in and out and to and fro
The Taint swerves through your mortal frame
The Taint (or lack of Taint)'s to blame
Untainted liquid be your shame

The Water in and Water out
Is UNFORGIVABLE, they say,
An ABOMINATION, this day,
The blood flows out, the Taint shall stay.

Now that the ritual is done,
Stand from your Circle in the dust
Stand from your weakness, stand you must
'Tis a new day, so the Lords trust.
