Morgfyre's Fables by Revan
Merit for August 2009
This is the beginning of a work by Revan n'Kylbar to honour his Lord, Morgfyre
and to spread His doctrine throughout the Basin.
- Tale of the Wasteful Idiot
Once there was a man who was rich, fat and powerful. Ever beholden to the
tenets of the Masque, he lived a luxurious lifestyle and would pamper himself
with all the latest comforts, greedy as the very Lord he served. His brother, a
devout follower of the Lord Legion, would throw away his posessions, offer up
gold and personal belongings to the Lord and humbly seek new ways to serve. One
day, the greedy brother said to his other, "why do you throw away such comforts?
It is wasteful and stupid!" To which the other replied "Ah, but when the new age
sweeps the Basin, I shall be enjoying and adapting whereas you shall be clinging
to all you have gained, and thus lose it all." The Fainite scoffed and ridiculed
these words, tending his posessions once more. And so change did come, and the
masses revolted, and in the chaos, the rich brother saw ruin. The devout priest
of the Legion instead saw opportunity in the chaos and raised himself high above
the echelons of society. Soon after, a beggar knelt before the feet of his king
and the king asked "What service would you do me this day?" to which the beggar
replied "I give you all my worldly posessions to serve the greater good, my
brother." The king nodded and sent his brother to work in the kitchens.
Moral: Those who cling to ways of old shall be destroyed when change arrives.
Embrace change and prosper.
- The Priest and the Shrine
Lord Morgfyre was seeking amusement one day. Thus, he bade one of His priests
to build a shrine to commemorate His greatness upon the realm of Eventru. And so
the priest set out to do this and erected a sizeable shrine. Lord Eventru was
wroth and destroyed the shrine. The priest was summarily chastised for such an
insult to the Golden Lord. However, the priest was devoted and returned,
erecting an even greater shrine to the Legion upon Eventru's realm. This time
the shrine was not only destroyed, but the priest maggoted and beaten. Lord
Eventru made it clear that next time the priest would die. And so the priest
deliberated over this. He rather enjoyed life. On the other hand, he valued and
worshipped the Lord. And so the priest sought counsel with one of the Legion's
High priests. The High Priest listened and said "Go now, child... for the
Legion's power swells within you so that you may do His bidding!" The priest
returned to Eventru's realm and constructed a shrine so mighty and powerful that
Lord Eventru could not marr it. Before the final blessing could be given,
Eventru struck the priest down for his insolence and cast the corpse aside,
bidding His slaves to deconstruct the shrine. Upon Eventru leaving, the priest
rose as an undead, the Legion's power swelling within him. He slaughtered
Eventru's slaves and gave the final blessing to the Legion's shrine before
departing.
Moral: What is destroyed does not truly die, but returns even more powerful
than before
- The Starving Beggar
Once there was a beggar on the street pandering for handouts. For months on end
he has starved, craving the food which the local nobles dine on. One day, a
particularly pompous and plump noble came and spoke, "Look at the poor man, for
he starves! What a pitiful way to live life. Far better to be well fed and
rich!" The nobleman laughed a moment before blood dripped from his mouth and
the life went out of his eyes as the beggar slid his dagger out from the man's
belly. The beggar then began carefully cutting up the body and replied "Ah, but
now you are dead... and now I feast."
Moral: Those who succumb to their hunger find great rewards.
- Hajamin and the Legion
One day, Lord Hajamin and Lord Morgfyre met together. Gulp.
Moral: Don't be Hajamin. You will get eaten.
