On Indigo Wings by Sthai

Runner Up for January 2010

Gilded wing and indigo,
Sweet her voice, and ancient glow,
Black and fallen, first and fairest,
Behold the Lady of paths unknowing.

What portal passed Forbidden Lord?
Two swords to guard, an empty hall.
Left behind and nothing grasp,
She sings her songs and drifts alone.

Cassana, sweet, and garbed in fire,
Black and blue, temptation's own.
To grasp the scroll and know the power,
Raezon's scion of hall and throne.

She drifts alone, the spectral halls,
Beneath the circle, the star within,
And where the call and where His will?
Lost His priests and scholars gone.

Not cast away, or set to wander,
Left to rot or elsewise squander.
When all have passed and Basin founders,
Remains the angel in blue-tongued fire.

Her ear is cast, sweet to the Void,
Wings are fanned and keep the beat,
Songs of creatures of form unknowing,
Gods and ghosts and things unspoken.

Eternal, feet above the marbled floor,
Passing hall and God-locked door.
The scrolls and books are fast within,
Swords stuck fast to hold therein.

Blade of Day and Blade of Night,
Circled in centre and hidden sight.
She wings unblinking 'round their hilts,
Waits, her ear in subtle tilt.

Then come the symbol, come forgotten,
Last of scions, temple coming.
From temple gone, the call is sounded,
Raezon's own to place of power.

Then call within her heart of fire,
Indigo and black to pier,
Thus to Him her song is calling,
Back from dark and Voidwrought drifting.

Her hands are smoke, her hands are flames,
The Blade of Night and Blade of Day,
Between, the balance thus is stricken,
Song within becomes song withought.

Burns Cassana, sweet in rapture,
His voice an echo, endless falling.
To Void, her wings do catch the echo,
Her Lord returned through mirrors and shadows.

Then fallen last, and fallen first,
Through her is passed, to nothing come.
Who walked the hall and passed in fire,
Cassana, lost, in glory found.
