Runner Up for January 2010
O Hallifax
~ an ode to the Beacon of Harmony
I lay myself to rest and drift to sleep,
And in my mind's eye dream of vistas vast.
I fly o'er deserts and o'er mountains leap,
And come upon a sky-bound jewel at last.
She drifts amid the airy windswept blue,
A glinting gem beneath the smiling sun,
Her perfect walls aglow with every hue,
Her pristine visage parelled by none.
I dance among her soaring minarets,
I feel the pow'r within her matrix thrum.
A dulcet chiming stirs me from my rest.
I wake to hear the city's vibrant hum.
In wakefulness I see her beauty whole,
Surpassing every flight of fantasy.
I breathe, and let her soft winds fill my soul,
Enveloped in her unmatched majesty.
All praise the shining glory of the skies,
Whose crystal spires gently kiss the clouds.
No greater sight than thou has graced mine eyes,
And evermore shall thee this poet laud.
