By the Full Moon by Lillie
Runner Up for February 2010
By the full moon, gentle silver light
A little faeling
Makes a heavy flight
The stars are brightened, with no clouds to block the way
She never knew what he would do, nor knew what she would say
Always felt, always knew
Something that she'd had to do
But did he know? Could he look at her the same?
She was herself, but why this shame?
By the full moon, soft warm summer breeze
A lonely human
Wanders 'twixt the trees
Darkened sky, silver light, he'd let her so far in
Vestiges of love remain, crawl all across his skin
What was love, now is gone
A man's pure heart is now withdrawn
He gave his heart, she bore its weight,
From pristine road to Cave of Fate.
By the full moon, tired, waking still
The rueful faeling
Sits, to wait until
Her thoughts come clearer, and her wingtips cease to shake
She'd had his heart - how could she know it'd break?
But her soul, fragile shard
Held within such high regard
A fatal slip, and her human body rose
A faeling body, she then chose
By the full moon, climbing on the Peak
An earnest human
His actions will speak
Higher still, bolder now, he comes upon the Cave
He takes his last breath, for his love he will save
Body falls, soul remains
And, no longer bound in chains
He peers inside, at the Portal's spinning glow
"Faeling," he cries, his love for her to show.
By the full moon, sunrise creeping slow
Two little faelings
Within each other's glow
The air is cool now, but the fire, it burns again
It sears within them, a new love, beyond their ken.
