A Dreamscape without Form by Raeri
Merit for July 2010
Once upon a softly moonlit night
whilst dreaming, in a daze,
Before my eyes danced motes of light
as if all set ablaze.
Shining forth from countless points
some quite near, others far -
In my mind I did them anoint:
varied constellations of stars!
Spinning gently in the air
against a canvas dark,
Runic sigils drawn with flair
flitting past me like a lark!
Seeing one close I reached out so,
and called one to my side -
A mess of light yet without form -
but when I touched it, tried to hide.
Looking closer at its shape
a blurred outline did I see -
A sparrow, a slivven, an heliotropic grape?
a fish - no a rabbit, a tree!
My imagination upon the Realms imposed
like mischievous cheupeds from my youth -
No single form could mine eyes discern,
nor to any form could they be bound!
And as the shapes did dissipate,
fraying coils 'bout my translucent form -
A transfixing sight did I there await,
in the eye of an awe-inspiring storm!
Fuzzy threads of iridescent light
flowed forth like rivers bright -
Weaving skeins of shimmering flight
spiralling far away out of sight!
A zigzagging blob of uncertain might
wisps of colour and light demure,
Surrounded by shadows under moonlight bright
of wondrous form and function unsure.
And thus, in the darkness I wandered far,
and dreamt of oh-so-many things -
Of coughing swimming mammoth-fish,
and whether mammoths have wings!
