Observational notes regarding Fate-Touched, section 1 by Aerotan
Merit for April 2011
Herein lies recorded excerpts from the observational notes of one Loosin Helsiric Splitwing, beginning on the twenty-first of Vestian, two hundred and eighty years after the coming of Estarra.
These recordings are being taken by a memory crystal technique rediscovered by a colleague of mine to capture only the auditory data, and so allow for a greater amount of information to be stored on each crystal. Once the transfers are complete, the crystals from which the data is recorded will be cleared so that they can be reused.
This material is the property of the Indigo Company Department of Inquisition and Invention, and is classified as a trade secret.

The records were transferred on Juliary twenty, year two ninety.

...-alvage what...-an of the day's research. Leave it to one of THEM to not show up for his appointments, as if our time wasn't valuable. Never mind that I'm a member of the research caste and he a mere artisan. Regardless, all the overhead has been taken care of, and my equipment will be ready for the next subject. At the 'advisement' of the Execumatrix Magnificus, I will be altering the labelling for the subjects from T-numeral and N-numeral, representing Touched and Normal, to S-numeral and C-numeral, representing Subject and Control. The Execumatrix wishes us to have such labels on most, if not all, of our observational experiments in the future, 'so as to avoid confusion'. I will of cours-...-omply with the reque-...

The voice fades into a high-pitched whine that then fades back into speech.

...-ay thre-...-f the experiment, and one of the Subjects has deigned to show up for the appointment as scheduled. Subject one is male, trill, five six feet, three inches, seventeen cloves. He is neither trim nor excessively overweight.
The subject has an air about him that seems to set him apart. After a cursory examination, I was unable to place my finger on precisely what the cause of this was. His physique is not what would be expected of one of his caste, nor his activity levels, his appearance is not out of the ordinary in any way of coloration or style, his manner of dress was ruled out once the subject disrobed at my direction, as was jewelry and other adornments, as the subject has none. In short, I was unable to reach any conclusion.
Upon entering the examination room, the subject immediately noticed and began poking, prodding, and attempting to move the examination table before I spoke a word. Indeed, I waited until he actually deigned to acknowledge me before I introduced myself and gave my instructions. The examination itself was fairly quick, though halfway through it, he began rifling through my medical supplies.
Somehow he managed to find a length of cabling from the Primary Generator in the cabinet. Unsure of what else to do, I finished my examination and instructed him, after reminding him to get redressed, to take it to the maintenance department with a hastily written note of censure. The experience was bizarre, to say the least.
I'm still left with the impression that there's something palpably different about the subject. The way he moves, and holds himself, perhaps, though the differences would be subtle were that the case. My insights into this are unclear, at best, but I can only say that to me, the subject is like a bit of glass amongst base stones. Neither better nor worse, but notably different.
The following control is a fema-...-ian. Fiv-...

...-ject three is a female furrikin, three feet two inches unless one counts the ears, and is...male...ahem. Subject three is a male furrikin, three feet two inches without his ears, weighing roughly seven cloves. He appears to resemble a rabbit or a hare of some sort, I was never clear on the distinction. Like the others he has a peculiar air about him that I find hard to identify or dispel, likely aided by the fact that he is only a rank or two under me within the caste.
Diet is apparently vegan, which does little to explain his weight or build, though his activity levels likely contribute to this. He mentioned spending excessive amounts of time idle in the room with-

Aside from this, however, he is much like the other subjects to pass through the room in that he was instantly drawn to the examination table. Unlike the previous two subjects, three agreed to return at a later date to follow up the process.
