A Song of Loss (Bury the Light) by Rancoura

Merit for January 2013

Once we walked together, one beneath the wyrden boughs

We whispered behind shadows in the company of crows

We did not ever wonder what lay beyond Glomdoring

The Heart of Darkness was our home, our unwavering abode

We never questioned, never wondered at the gifts we were bestowed

How could we ever desire something more than this?

But I bore a feeling that you might

Believe in the light

Thus I attempted to draw you back

With a prayer to the Night

But you left me behind

Alone at midnight

With only our memories

Thus I'll bury the light

Soon I shall look back

And see who you were

I shall gaze at the past

And bury the light

Once our rites were joined and we watched with solemn eyes

We danced through violet mists and flew through darkened, starless skies

But now you have turned your back on all we were

We swore our sacred oaths to our Regent and our Queen

Spoken from our hearts, the most sincere we could ever mean

But now your honour and your soul are as false as your words

I bore a feeling that you might

Believe in their lies

And despite all my desperate pleas

I lost you to moonlight

You left me behind

Alone at midnight

With only our memories

Thus I'll bury the light

Now I shall look back

And see who you were

I shall gaze at the past

And bury the light

Nothing matters

Nothing matters

Nothing matters but Glomdoring

You do not matter

You do not matter

Nothing matters but Glomdoring

Once we walked together, one beneath the wyrden boughs

We whispered behind shadows in the company of crows

How could we ever desire

Something more than this?

How could you ever desire

Something more than this?

I had a feeling you might

Fall for their lies

I shall bury the light

Bury the light
