Sweetest Uncertainty by Delsea
Merit for October 2015
From vastly different worlds they come,
At odds in many a way.
Until by chance their paths did cross,
And thus began a new day.
She walked the woods, dance and sang
With playful joy did live.
With flowers and nature did commune
With generous spirit give.
Blessed she was with grace and wit,
Crowned with tresses of gold.
Simple beauty, fair and sweet,
Admired by young and old.
When one day he passed her way
Her gaze he inevitably drew.
For quiet and imposing he stood,
So unlike anyone else she knew.
Something fluttered within her breast,
Like butterflies taking wing.
Fascinated, she could not look away
Though he barely said a thing.
Tall and strong was he, she saw
With eyes of piercing blue.
An impressive physique could not be hid
And thus her curiosity grew.
Did he see her look his way?
She hardly dared to hope
Unsure of herself, how very strange
How do others cope?
She smiled at him with merry warmth,
And he gave to her a flower.
A simple gift, yet she was lost,
Entranced by his exuded power.
And so, now smitten, she set about
Seeking to know him more,
With little gifts, him she did shower,
And hoped she was not a bore.
Death and steel she learned was his trade,
The taint his closest friend.
Fierce and ruthless, a mighty warrior he,
His foes all met their end.
Any other daughter of the ‘Wilde
Would a gentler man go seek!
Yet hidden deep within her being,
Was a rather savage streak.
His strength and solidarity
Was something to admire,
It spoke into her very depths,
Her imagination did inspire.
And he too was playful, she could see,
A softer side existed,
His fondness for puns and cute antics,
Had her verily enchanted.
He made her shy, could not forget,
How unlikely, worlds apart
Magnagora and Serenwilde
Was she doomed right from the start?
Perhaps she simply fooled herself,
Longing for the forbidden?
Yet her infatuation refused to abate,
Deep inside, barely hidden.
It burned like a flame, hot and bright,
Consuming all her thoughts,
Could he ever feel the same?
Her heart was tied in knots.
For though her affection was made clear,
He kept himself in check,
Except for that oft remembered time
He gave her cheek a peck.
But why would he ever fall for her?
He was well above her reach
Old, wise and mighty too,
With much to all could teach.
She was hardly worth his time,
Unaccomplished and insignificant.
A simple singer, young, naive,
But oh! How she wished it were different!
Uncertain how to claim his heart
She continued with passionate yearning,
And hoped someday he’d look her way
And together, love, unswerving.
