She stares at him, azure eyes meeting her own as he looks back at her.
Her breath catching, she suddenly feels the flicker of a memory,
lost long ago to the echoes of the void, before her new life,
before the Portal wiped everything she had ever known.

There is something about him, captured in the deep blue of his eyes,
calling to her, beckoning her to come forth out of the darkness.
And she recognizes his call, that call of an old soul tethered to a new body,
bereft, reaching out into the nothingness for a glimpse of the light.

Squinting in the sunlight and the radiance dancing along his armour,
her heart pounds in her chest, each beat resonating the pangs of her reminiscing.
And just there, in that moment, her eyes widen in understanding.
She suddenly realizes who he is, who she is, or rather, who they were.

She closes her eyes, gathering the courage to take a step forward,
mustering the will to face the uncertainty and anxiety head on.
He notices her movement, studying her with a squint, focused and alert.
She looks upon him once more, his face contorted in a pained, knowing look.

Tears spill out as her gaze reaches his once more. He remembers now!
He has seen her for who she is, who she was, and who she can be yet again.
Without warning, he approaches, standing mere steps away from her
and reaches out, taking her hand into his own, clasping it fervently.

This gentle touch, enveloped in hope and madness, electric and terrifying,
eases to a calming comfort that she despaired of never feeling again.
And here, in this moment, the world ceases to exist.  All is quiet.
And a peace settles upon their surroundings as a mist upon water.

"Father?" she whispers in a strangled tone, breathless and terrified.
Now she notices his tears, spilling down his cheeks, unchecked.
Nodding, he grabs her, wrapping his arms around her body in an embrace
that threatens to rob her of breath, and in that moment, she comes alive.

They stand there, the sunlight gleaming along the ripples of the Pool,
the city bustling with life and laughter, hopes and dreams and joy...
they stand there, two souls caught in an otherworldly tango of chaos,
torn apart, only to be drawn back together once more and made whole.

It was as if this day had been made for them alone, for their rejoining,
for the realization that though they had parted, they were reunited once more.
Though the Portal can tear lives asunder, separating loved ones to an unknown future,
there is a hope, echoing from the darkness, and the beauty of a promise of reunification.
