The communes were perhaps less than thrilled at the news brought to them
through lips of young Dandelion Sweetpease. The occasion was greatly
important to both forests, of course, as well as Maeve and every fae in
Lusternia, but the Queen's request seemed much to demand. It was, as
Dandelion announced with childish glee, the "adversary of the Founding
of Faethorn!"
The request itself was simple only on the surface. Queen Maeve of the
Fae wished to invite those of Serenwilde and Glomdoring to celebrate the
Founding during the month of Kiani. The reality, however, was that she
was asking far more of the forests than any cared to admit.
Nevertheless, Glomdoring and Serenwilde planned to attend the event as
peacefully as possible.
Kiani arrived, and then young Dandelion came again to the communes,
announcing that they should gather at the foyer before the Queen's
throne. Many came, most with a weapon at their side or a spell ready at
their lips. The strain between the forests was glaringly apparent to
everyone--except, of course, Dandelion himself.
As Glomdoring and Serenwilde postured and traded veiled insults, Queen
Maeve finally arrived. She greeted both communes and bade them play a
game for the amusement of Dandelion, and then the Harbingers of
Glomdoring provided a song. Much to the amusement of the young fae, it
was the song of a fae child and his home.
Smiling at Dandelion's excitement, the Queen of the Fae offered him his
reward for bringing the two forests into even this reluctant peace: she
would help him grow up. Dandelion seemed to nearly burst with his joy.
And before the gathered witnesses, Maeve aided Dandelion in his
transformation from fae child to fae adult and leaned forward to whisper
into his ear, telling him of the position she had in mind for his
future.
Solemnly, Dandelion hurried off to assume his post, and the communes
followed. First Glomdoring came into Maeve's Gardens, a section of
Faethorn long hidden from mortal eyes. There, they discovered wondrous
flower fae and hummingbirds. When Serenwilde followed, the disquieted
peace between them broke, and fighting broke out within the Gardens.
But with the cessation of violence, quiet came to Maeve's Gardens as all
the mortals left the fae in peace. Only a few returned at intervals as
the days passed to attempt to aid Dandelion in growing beautiful flowers
as a gift for Queen Maeve. First Ishant and then Siam and Sadie came
close to achieving this end, but the little plants simply did not
flourish.
Finally, it was Sarrasri Talnara who proved her thumb greenest. Dawn
blossomed across Maeve's Gardens, and with it bloomed the flowers that
Dandelion needed to give to the Queen. Maeve was overjoyed to receive
the resulting bouquet, and sent a token of her approval back to the
hard-working Dandelion. Thus did Sarrasri receive a seed, strangely
glowing, and oddly reminiscent of the seed from which Dandelion grew so
many years before. She planted it within the Serenwilde and a beauteous
bluebell grew quickly to maturity before her eyes.
She felt, too, her knowledge of Wicca grow, and found to her
astonishment that while the flower bloomed, she was able to summon an
ethereal bluebell fae to her side. Thus was the secret and the power of
Maeve's Gardens revealed. What forces the little fae commands or,
indeed, what fae might be drawn to the Glomdoring commune remains yet to
be discovered.
