An Infestation of Slivven

It was a strange thing indeed when a seemingly out-of-control gnomish
aethership broke through a rift into the Prime Material Plane, crashing
into the side of Avechna's Peak. Captain Lotin Snapfuse, the gnome
commander of the vessel, explained that slivvens had overrun his ship,
causing it to go out of control. Worse still, they had scattered all
along the Peak with bits of his cargo - the blue cognito rock, a rare
commodity prized by gnomes. Adventurers of all callings began slaying
the beasts, bringing cargo back to Snapfuse in exchange for small bags
of gold.
Captain Snapfuse was cagey about how his ship became infested with
slivven, though it was speculated that he has visited Mucklemarsh, the
aetherbubble quarantined by the Facility Gnomes. Any gnome caught
trafficking with Mucklemarsh would be imprisoned in the Facility. When
word was brought to Captain Girda Starhopper of the Aethership
Starhopper, she immediately contacted the Facility but before the
gnomish government could respond and interrogate Lotin Snapfuse, he was
summarily executed by Xenthos An'Ryshe.
The slivven infestation spread throughout Avechna's Peak, as they were
using the cognito rock to build a nest. Eventually, the nest of a
slivven queen was found deep within the Kiakodan Nature Reserve. Many
helped in the operation to clear out the slivven, but it was Xenthos
An'Ryshe who on his own managed to defeat the majority of slivven, kill
the queen and claim the enormous gold reward offered by the gnomes.
Unfortunately, with Captain Lotin Snapfuse dead and his ship destroyed,
little information was able to be gathered by Facility authorities. It
was speculated that Captain Lotin was a member of a larger gnomish black
market operation. The clean up and salvage operations of the crashed
aethership would be contracted out by the Facility Gnomes who promised
to return Avechan's Peak to its normal pristine condition.
