I am aware of growing concern throughout the basin for the plight of the viscanti orphans residing at St. Gathlyn's. Initially some people were concerned that the orphans seemed to vanish, and came up with rather worrying conspiricy theories. This was completely untrue -just visit the orphanage and you will see some of them, either happily at play, or being educated in the schoolhouse there.
Instead, people are now worried about what the children are being taught about: the Holy Light. These children, educated in the ways of the Holy Light, whose toys include blessed angels carved out of small stones: what happens when they grow older, and wish to leave the orphanage, take the trials of the Portal of Fate, and move to New Celest - the city of their faith's origin?
In all honesty, I was myself concerned about how such young adults would be treated. That is why I have spent some time studying the laws and history of Celest, to see if anything could be done. For if we were to teach them about the Light only to later reject them, perhaps it would be better to not help Brother Elalioll rescue them in the first place.
I was, of course, completely wrong to doubt. Because those who wrote out the laws of Celest were guided by the Holy Light, and, there has always been a provision for children such as the viscanti orphans. While it is true that viscanti are barred from joining Celest, it is also true that there is a built-in exemption - young viscanti who have ventured through the portal and joined Celest are allowed to remain members of the city. They need to undergo a purification ritual, and have their names recorded to prove that the taint has been purged from them by the powers of Water and Light. They may also encounter some restrictions, such as limited access to the Pool of Stars. But, they can safely live in New Celest, learning more about the Holy Light, and becoming fruitful members of the city.
You may all rest assured that we of the Holy Light will always guard and proect the faithful. And you can assist by helping Brother Elalioll gather up the poor viscanti orphans left to wander the Blasted Lands by their own despicable kind. Rest assured, it is a good thing you are doing!
