Streamlining Combat!

We just closed the forum poll which asked players what they'd like our
coding resources to focus on. The top category was to streamline combat,
including weeding down afflictions and a review of the warrior damage
formula. While I can't make any promises how long this project will take
(it could take one month or six months), I do promise this will be our
next priority.

However, the question arises: What does 'streamlining combat' actually
mean? I'm not sure I even know! I do not think it means dumbing down
combat--combat is meant to be complex, have a high learning curve and
allow for a variety of tactics. However, complaints leveled at Lusternia
specifically is that combat here has too complex and has too high a
learning curve, so we want to strike some sort of middle ground. While
we want to look at consolidating afflictions or maybe even getting rid
of useless afflictions, we do -not- want to get rid of afflictions that
are difficult to cure. It is definitely a balancing act!

So because there is a lot of controversy over what streamlining combat
means, we would like to hear from everyone who has an opinion. If you
have an understanding of combat and feel you can make constructive
contributions, please email us at support@lusternia.com (please have the
re: read "Streamlining Combat"). We are not really interested in essays
on combat balance, but rather we would prefer to have bullet-point lists
of suggestions you think would help to streamline combat. If you feel
you must include reasons behind your suggestions, please try to be brief
about it. If you suggest to remove something from skillset that would
drastically impact a guild (like blood vessels in telekinesis), please
make sure you address how you would address the sudden imbalance. We
will keep all suggestions anonymous.

After we have gone through your emails and compiled a report, we may
privately be contacting some players who are combat experts and who we
believe are consistently objective to get further feedback. However,
this is -not- going to go through an envoy review. Feel free to open up
discussions on the forums. We will accept emailed reports through the
end of this month (September 30). Thanks in advance for your help and we
look forward to hearing from you!
