Based on indeas offered on the forums, we have made a change to the way
offering to defile or sanctify is done with esteemed items. Each "offer"
of an item to sanctify or defile will only consume roughly 5% of the
esteem imbued into the item, and the item will not be destroyed until
the esteem has been completely consumed.
