Starting in the Paladin's Guild of New Celest, strange voices began to
speak over the guild and city aethers, their voices garbled beyond
coherence. The phenomenon spread until the voices echoes throughout all
the aethers of the Basin. At the same time the wanderers of the Basin,
the pilgrims, scholars and bards, began to experience head pains. As the
days went by, the sounds of frightened children began to echo from the
nexuses in each city and commune. As time progressed the words became
clearer, and it was revealed that there were two parties involved: a
furious sounding woman, and a group of children.
The Basin was thrown into confusion as they tried to pinpoint the
location of the strange voices. Disturbing events began unfolding across
the Basin as the voices grew louder. The bards, scholars and pilgrims of
the Basin began to suffer from severe head pain, eventually refusing to
follow anyone that offered to help them. Screeching noises echoed in the
sky, and plumes of thick black smoke blew across the land, filling the
air with a nauseating stench. Hearing a garbled voice scream about
gravediggers on the aethers, groups from the cities and forests began to
scour the Blasted Lands. The groups' attention was drawn upwards by a
clangorous noise as an enormous structure shimmered into sight over the
Blasted Lands, floating high above. And so, the Tainted Broadcasting
Centre was revealed to the Basin.
It was Magnagora that first discovered a way to reach the floating
platform, and they were promptly greeted by gravediggers and morbid
creatures of ghastly appearance. Serenwilde found their way up to the
floating building shortly afterwards as did the citizens of New Celest.
Those of the Glomdoring kept their distance, not forming a party to
search the building. Closer inspection revealed the owners of the
garbled voices that had plagued the aethers. The woman's voice was
revealed to be that of Norchatine, an undead merian. Nearby the childish
voices heard turned out to be the children of the Stryker family that
hid in another section of the Broadcasting Centre, safe from Norchatine
and her gravedigger minions.
With offers of glorious rewards, Norchatine asked for help in restoring
a broadcasting device that the children had broken, for a mysterious
Lord who she claimed to be the Basin's true emperor. The cities quickly
put an end to any attempts to speak with either faction, however, as
violence erupted within the Centre, killing nearly everyone. As time
passed, smaller groups returned to Centre, discovering more and more
within its ancient bowels. In the end, it was Zia Talnara, Seneschal of
the Serenwilde Forest that was the first to help repair Norchatine's
device and reveal the identity of her "Lord". In a swirl of gaudy
clothing and rotting flesh, Globglob Mesherbrub, the former aether
broadcast host, revealed himself. As Norchatine secured him to the
enormous broadcasting device, a piercing noise resounded through the
Basin. Globglob had declared himself the Basin's true emperor, bending
the scholars, bards and pilgrims to his will through unknown methods.
Shortly after, it was the same people who brought Globglob to power that
decided to end his blasphemous broadcasts. With the help of Ildil and
Wielm Stryker's children, the Basin was able to destroy the antennas
that Globglob used to broadcast, and eventually, kill Globglob, bringing
an end to the Globglob's noise for a time.
And so the Tainted Broadcasting Centre's true nature was revealed. It
still remains how the organizations of the Basin of Life will view this
place with its insane leader. Will it be a useful tool for the cities
and forests? Or rather, a menace to all that must be avoided? Only time
will tell.
