It all started when the Moonhart Mother Tree and the Master Ravenwood
Tree started displaying various alarming symptoms. Alerting the populace
of their respective communes, Miakoda and Brennan sent them out to
search for the source. Both communes mounted a massive search and even
questioned Queen Maeve at length. Soon, they realised that for both
Trees to suffer thus, a common link between the both of them may be in
danger. Galaphyrae was the first among them to fly out to the Tree of
Trees where she found a diseased hole eating away at its very life. The
populace of Serenwilde gathered at the Tree of Trees, hoping to find
some way to save the Tree of Trees.

The commune of Serenwilde consulted Miakoda, Dain and Abeytu, but turned
up with no answer to the growing hole. After some experimentation, it
was found that silvery essence would alleviate a little of the
discolouration of the bark around the hole, giving the Tree of Trees
some relief, thus a massive effort was raised to ferry essence to the
tree. However, the tree soon tire of the endless torrents of essence and
rejected all further similar offerings. Pondering this quandry, Xiel,
Nejii and Rika soon gathered and attempted to place varying objects into
the hole. Despite numerous setbacks, they soon found that certain
objects blessed and granted by Nature also have healing properties.
Athames, sickles and cudgels too alleviate the discolouration of the
bark, where cudgels were seen to have the most impact, as noted by
Alianna of the Hartstone.

It was soon determined that the cudgels were too weak to have any
significant impact on the diseased hole. At this point, it become
suspected that perhaps the two ancient Cudgels of the Hartstone and
Blacktalon could have an effective impact. However, both champions were
not present for the confirmation of this suspicion. After days of
enduring the ravages of their Great Trees, Nyir soon placed the Black
Cudgel of Mighty Crow within the hole at the suggestion of Brennan, and
the cudgel promptly disappeared deep within with a mauve flash. At this
auspicious sign, both communes eagerly awaited the arrival of Lehki for
his contribution. To the distress of the communes, his arrival come
about half a month after Nyir, but the Ancient Cudgel of Glinshari was
placed within the Tree's wound. With the cudgels in place, the Tree of
Trees produced an ample amount of fragrant sap which served to seal up
the hole, effectively hiding it and both cudgels from sight as the Tree
began to heal.

After less than a day, observers witnessed a sudden recovery of their
Great Trees, signalling that perhaps a similar process was occuring at
the Tree of Trees. Gathering at the Spirit Tree, the communes witnessed
the hole slowly disappear, effectively consuming the last traces of both
cudgels. Wholly healed from the power of the cudgels, the Tree of Trees
grew two ring-like branches, one auburn and one dark. Serenwilde
gathered the auburn ring while Glomdoring gathered the dark ring and
returned to their communes.

With the blessings of Hart and of Crow, Serenwilde and Glomdoring found
the gifts of the Tree of Trees imbued with their former power and
fashioned into the Sacred Torc of Hart's Renewal and the Feathered Torc
of Crow's Guile, respectively. The Torcs seemed to inherit all
properties former inherent in both Cudgels, and bonded similarly with
their chosen bearers. Thus, with the new gifts born of sacrifice, a
nightmare passes for the communes that both revere the Great Spirit
Tree. But the question still remains unanswered: How did the Tree of
Trees sustain its life-threatening condition?
