Discordant Notes at the Tree of Trees

Strange noises began echoing across the forests. In the Glomdoring, the
caws of crows reached the forest dwellers' ears as though they were
underwater. In the Serenwilde, the trees shook as horrible gagging and
hacking noises filled the forest. At the same time, the Voices that
reside with the bard guilds became greatly disturbed. The Voice of
Trialante called out to the Spiritsingers, asking for Charune, her
former mate. Meanwhile, in the Glomdoring, the Harbingers were surprised
by the wails and moans of the Voice of Mahalla. Both spoke of a
disturbance in the Song of Creation. As the days passed, the
disturbances grew worse, and eventually both Voices left in search of
the source of the happenings.
The communes, bereft of their Voices, were left to search on their own
for what might be causing this. A group of Serens soon came to the Tree
of Trees and found the area besieged by similar strange noises and music
stemming from somewhere underground. Heeding the advice of Queen Maeve,
the communes came together to bring the fae girl to the Tree of Trees,
where she fast realised the source of the problem, opening a path into
the roots beneath the mighty Tree.
When the groups arrived beneath the roots of the Tree or Trees, they
discovered something amiss in the air. They called out on their
respective aethers to Mahalla and Trialante, telling them that they had
found the source of the disruption of the Great Song. The Voices were
lost, however, as nothing more than the fragmented memories of the long
dead Elder Goddesses. Realising that their instruments were one of the
final physical links the Voices had to this world, those bearing the
instruments broke them into pieces. As Daedalion shattered the Ebony
Mandolin of Mahalla, she burst into the room, shortly followed by the
Voice of Trialante as Xiel broke the Argentine Lyre.
The Voices attempted to force the disturbance back to normal, but even
their combined song was not enough. With mortals unable to see the
distortion in the Song, the Voices urged them to gather the corpses of
cheuped and glass widow spiders from their nexus worlds to amplify their
voices and force the disruption into a form that the mortals themselves
could deal with.
The communes were faced then with a discordant beat in the Song of
Creation, around which the aether itself shifted eerily. At the fae
girl's suggestion, the communes struggled with the music itself and
weakened it. Finally, Daedalion and Sarrasri used the strings from the
broken instruments to bind the beat and force it back into place in the
Song.
Greatly relieved, the forest dwellers returned to their homes with their
Voices, though little was known about what might have disrupted the Song
of Creation, or why the disturbance was centred at the Tree of Trees.
