The Elder Goddess Viravain, having recently recovered from her
possession by the Soulless God Kethuru, turned her attention once again
upon the Glomdoring Forest. Her experience with being possessed left her
with a curious disability of being able to see the Taint. Thus, having
no memories of the possession and not seeing the Taint, she declared her
remaking of Gloriana, what was now called Glomdoring as a complete
success. When the Tainted Great Nature Spirit of Crow was raised,
Viravain revealed that Crow was her creation and had not changed since
she was had been driven from Lusternia during the days of the Elder
Wars.
Coupled with the drastic personality transformations from being touched
by Kethuru, Viravain became completely obsessed with the restoration of
Glomdoring. She knew that the first order of business was to awaken the
spiritual life within the forest. She sensed sleeping spirits within
Glomdoring, fae spirits held by Mother Night, embodied by mighty
avatars. These dark fae would strengthen the ethereal side of
Glomdoring. She appealed first to Lisaera, an Elder Goddess of the Sixth
Circle trained to awaken sleeping spirits. When Lisaera refused to help
the fae spirits touched by the Taint, Viravain denounced Lisaera and
looked for other ways to awaken the avatars.
Emboldened by Viravain's interest, Mother Night helped devise methods to
awaken these avatars. Many mortals interested in seeing the awakening of
Glomdoring helped gather the essence necessary to rouse these avatars.
One by one, they came into existence: Gwyllgi, the Dog of Darkness;
Glumki Thorneye, King of the Redcaps; and Lhiannan Shee-Slaugh.
With these awakened avatars, Queen Maeve of Faethorn, who embodied the
spirits of all the fae in all the forests, herself was changed by the
coming of these Avatars. A dark shadow came to life within her, touched
by Mother Night through the twisted fae of Glomdoring. Queen Maeve, torn
between the antithetical powers of Moon and Night, decided that
whomsoever recovered the staff given to her by Kiakoda, one of the Last
Nine of the Vernal Gods, and blessed it would be given ascendancy in
Faethorn. The fae of Faethorn were horrified at their queen's decision,
for they knew if Mother Night held ascendancy, they would be enslaved.
Wanting to control Faethorn, Mother Night sent forth the Daughters of
Night to influence Queen Maeve. In response, Mother Moon sent forth her
champions, the Ladies of the Silver Moon, to do battle with these dark
spirits and protect the fae. There was no contest in this battle, as
Mother Night could not compete with the energies of the Serenwilde who
helped Moon raise an army of her champions. The sceptre was found and
reformed, and blessed by Mother Moon, and thus Queen Maeve and the
Faethorn Realm are under the protection of this benevolent spirit, much
to the relief of all the fae there.
