It started with whispers of troubled dreams traveling throughout the
cities and communes. Then, prophesies from the ancestral spirits of the
Serenwilde Forest and the River Spirit of Tolborolla Valley warned of
dangerous times ahead. But when those with psionic skills began
reporting blinding headaches and violent earth tremors rocked the Basin
of Life, the sense of unease turned to a heightened anxiety, as the
psionicists began receiving garbled communications.
The mages with psionics who received these garbled communications first
viewed them as curiosities but that soon turned to panic as the
headaches that accompanied them turned perilous. Apparently now under
assault from a dangerous psychic wave, the psionicists retreated to
other planes, where they were safe. Upon investigation and research, the
Geomancers and Aquamancers independently worked out a way to use
elemental crystals (first pioneered during the Gorgog Invasions that
created the psionic archways) to dampen the psychic wave that was
driving them out of the Basin.
Though the Geomancers and Aquamancers clashed on who would create the
elemental crystals, eventually they were able to sweep over the Basin
and find the locations where the psychic wave was emanating. Over and
over, the psychic wave would break through to a new location, but
finally they created a latticework of crystals that dampened the wave to
nothing.
Now, all is calm in the Basin of Life. The psionicists are safe and the
headaches are gone. But troubling dreams still continue to plague many,
and a deep foreboding foments below the surface of conscious awareness.
