Actually you'll be lucky to ever see a funnel web, lived in Sydney for several years and have never seen one, but them Redbacks are everywhere especial at Adelaide oval tongue.gif

How did it go from beer to spiders i'll never know blink.gif whats next??
Unknown2004-11-12 16:18:56
Well just to tie those 2 topics together, try Redback beer! With a little slice of lemon in it. Beautiful! Don't know if it's a Perth beer or not but i've had many a hangover from that stuff, though my beer of choice would have to be Kilkenny or Crownies.

Oh little fact: Daddy Long-legs are extremly poisonous, but their fangs are not strong enough to break your skin.

You just have to spoil all my fun, don't you? I was trying to scare the poor tourist!
Unknown2004-11-13 08:52:09
Why bother? We have nine out of the ten most venomous snakes. Several of the most venomous spiders. Sharks, crocodiles, platypi (poisonous spur), Tasmanian devils, dingos (especially dangerous if you're a young child), sun cancer, jellyfish, stonefish, stingrays and cricket.

That's not to mention having the world record for the largest number of fatalities in one shooting. Scary place, Australia.

*EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK*

Oh god.. I'm gonna die! I don't want to die!
My only hope if that some cute aussie will come to my rescue and be my guide.

Nah, we have very very few deaths from crime, and you're in no more danger from our spiders and snakes than you are from your own country's.

Consequently, I'll be your guide! Though I'm an Ugmo. When exactly are you coming?

Feel free to contact me on aim, or via email (both of which are on my member profile) and we'll arrange stuff. Also, anyone else around the Sydney area, at least PM me with your email, so I can organise a big sydney meet to coincide with her trip.

A few Reassuring Facts:

1) Only 13 people have ever died from Redback spider bites, in history, and none have been within the last 10 years.

2) Although quite venomous, Funnel Webs have a very commonly available anti-venom, and have not had any recorded deaths except among the elderly in a long time

3) You're unlikely to see either of these spiders unless you specifically go looking for them, or go to a Zoo or something where they specifically keep them.

4) I do alot of Bushwalking (which is about the only place you're gonna see a snake as a tourist), and I see less than a snake a year, and even when you do see one, they're usually more interested in running away from you than confronting you (I've never been confronted by one). My Dog used to hunt and kill red belly blacks and king browns all the time...heh...that was when we lived near farmland but, wont see them in or around the city.

Port Arthur.

Also, *grabs Ialie* she's mine, my girlfriend. tongue.gif
Ialie2004-11-13 13:20:33
Bah! If spiders and snakes don't get me, then the possessive boyfriend will.
Asarnil2004-11-13 13:52:42
You Lie! Adelaide is the Murder Capital of the World *G*. Mainly cos of the lower population meaning our rate is slightly higher than other capitals *shrug*.

Really? That is the highest? How pathetic tongue.gif You'd think we could do better than that.
Gwynn2004-11-13 18:38:33
What else is there to do in Adelaide besides commit murder, seriously?

Knowing how incredibly unreliable people can be, any "Huge Meet" organised will probably turn out to be the organisers, and one person they only half knew was coming.

Everybody would be meeting everybody all new too though, it'd be like one big awkward something something...

Nonetheless I'm not going to pass up the chance to meet a fellow player whos only going to be in my country for a matter of weeks! Heh.

Almost insulted by that tongue.gif Plenty of things to do in Adelaide, you just have to be Adelaidian to know em wink.gif
But there is plenty to do here, i do much more here than i did when i lived in Sydney. You can only visit the Opera House so many time, and Centrepoint before you like hey thats great do i really have to go there again? Sydney is a tourist attraction, i'm waiting for a Sydney Tycoon to come out tongue.gif Don't get me wrong Syndey is nice, i enjoyed living there but i find Adelaide is my place of choice

Wasn't Adelaide also the drug capital quite a few years back?? tongue.gif
Zhaine2004-11-15 16:46:40
Drug capital? You'd be hard pressed to take that title from Perth. You can't walk down the street without being harassed for dope or speed.
I think that Perth took a more peaceful alternative to Adelaide's murdering. They just sit around and fry their brains instead.
Asarnil2004-11-15 16:52:33
Its no wonder I have always preferred Adelaide and Perth to the other cities then. Drugs and Killins - what more could a man ask for.
Shiri2004-11-15 23:28:55
I just wanna say, you guys have awesome accents. Specially the Tassies. biggrin.gif My aunt Sarah's in Australia now, she's doing research for her degree in speech therapy (she'll figure out eventually that your accents are a cool thing, not some sort of impediment, I'm sure tongue.gif.) She sent me an awesome birthday card of a koala, and an awesome postcard of the cutest Tassie devil I ever saw happy.gif Not sure where she is, Adelaide I think, but she says it's real nice.
Unknown2004-11-15 23:43:34
Adelaide's the drug capital (well, as far as capital cities go). Decriminalised marijuana. Nothing else needs be said.

If we're not talking capital cities then there's Nimbin, Kuranda and half a dozen other "alternative lifestyle" towns.
