Unless I'm mistaken, the page you linked to has 7 points that list the "terrible violations" with the patriot act. Each of those points are true to any criminal who is cuaght in certain circustances, using warrants and such. For example "American may be jailed without being charged or being able to confront witnesses against them" -- This is also true of a drunk driver or someone found to be invovled in a bar fight. They can be jailed for a certain amount of time without being charged. If while in jail, the police discover he might be the suspect for another crime, the police may ask a judge for a warrrent to increase the amount of time he is in jail while thy do a short investigation. The Patriot act has increased this time for people who are suspected of being involved in a terrorist act, yet no proof yet exists that they did it, because... they havn't done it yet.

Thats just one example.

The site, does not mention any of the laws regarding judges, or how safeguards within the act. Infact, most actual opposition to such things were more beuracrtic in nature, like which person would be allowed to make that decision, and what protections does a person have once they have been found to be innocent. Because as it is in most american law, people who are innocent of convictions have no protections against the information that they were investigated going out to the public.

Yeah, much closer than expected. Still, he won both the popular and the electoral vote this time around.

Congratulations Bush, and I think we should thank Kerry. I will confess that I was concerned that Kerry would refuse to concede and insist on trying to draw this out , but I'm glad he's not. Bravo Kerry, thanks for breaking with your party line for this one time cool.gif

Four more years of Bush. The last four years of the United States.

I mean what would you think if your son/daughter died over nothing, its different dying for a real cause, but really...

You think that WMD is the only reason people go to war? Hardly.

And to everyone who says they hate this country and that Bush sucks: feel free to move to Canada. You'll enjoy Socialism and bilingual everything! mad.gif

I for one am quite pleased that Bush one, particularly after Kerry made the statement that it would be better for US Troops to "die under the UN flag than the American one" That statement really chapped me. I fight for this country, not every other country in the United Nations. Granted, if a country over there needs assistance and it is in our best interest to be there we'll go but that is beside the point. This kind of idiocy is what has made me despise John Kerry all along. Good riddance you Herman Munster look-a-like.

I'd like to ask where everyone gets their 'facts.' The media? I don't think anyone here is high up in the government (I could be wrong.. but I'm probably not).

I'll give you some facts that could change some of the world for you:

The media reports things that are typically depressing and they report the bad things, instead of good things, because its been proven that bad things attract more viewers.
Daganev2004-11-03 21:49:48
I get most of my "facts" from conversations with people.

I don't know anyone highup in governemtn, but I do know people who know people who work with people who are high up in governemnt. smile.gif

I probabbly enjoy listening to the people I don't agree with, more than the people I do agree with, cause the people I do agree with, always seem to use the argument I dislike the most.

I know only one person in government, although lower, yet he has been elected into some local council, and it's not often I get anyt useful information from him; mostly it's just communist rethoric and idiocy. Personally, I have far more confidence in the various NGOs than in politicians and even bureaucrats.
Daganev2004-11-03 22:05:34
Oh thats right, I forgot I know the mayor of my city and the city public defender and all that stuff. But yeah, they spew junk and its hard to listen to them.

America really pisses me off.

I'm not surprised Bush won, though. Honestly, I don't really like either of them, but Bush had four years to show us how competent he is.

And who told you how competent he is? The media, again, the media reports the worse things so they get viewers. Especially the European media hates America and says this way about most American presidents (Ronald Raegan is the only one who was not said bad things about, probably because his strong stance on communism).
Daevos2004-11-04 00:59:48
Reagan was hated by the American mainstream media, irrationally so in my opinion though
Iridiel2004-11-04 12:30:17
A guy who says that cuting down the forests will be the best way to end with forestal fire... Or reads a book upside down...

I am frankly scared. Wich is the next country you plan to invade to raise the economy and save the world? Specially when the world doesn't ask to be saved.

About Guantanamo... Keeping a person two hours in jail without proof is bad. Keeping somebody prisoner in a concentration field, without even forming an accusation against him, for MONTHS is torture. But well, some said that what happened in Irak and the pictures of prisoners being threated as dogs were just... interrogatories.

I am moving to mars, feel free to come around visit.

That's not true, we loved Clinton. Clinton was great, why don't you guys vote him in again?

Anyhow, lets see what George Bush does now before we judge eh? Four years really wasn't enough to do what he wants to do and you never know, he might proove us critics wrong yet.
