Offer comments if you'd like, suggestions for streamlining the presentation of it would probably be the most useful.

The history of the d’Ilmaur family has only been traced so far to 22 years before the Coming of Estarra. This is when Cedric Ilmaur was born in the village of Dairuchi. At the age of 20, he started a small company dubbed Ilmaur Silks and set up shop in Gaudiguch while keeping his home at his birthplace. Cedric enjoyed decent profits and growth and he married a young Maeryanna Dervier that same year. Two years afterwards, with the coming of Estarra and the disappearance of Gaudiguch however, he found business tight. He began to set up shop in Magnagora with the emergence of the Viscanti and the large potential in the new market. Four years afterwards, he moved with his wife to Magnagora as business improved greatly, and at this time Cedric made sure all family and business matters were carefully recorded.
17 years after their move Maeryanna was blessed with a daughter Lynn, and three years after that, a son named Cailan. 38 years after the Coming of Estarra, Lynn married a Viscanti named Vinder d’Liero, and against her father’s wishes, took his name in favor of Ilmaur. In a fit of rage, Cedric cut all ties with his daughter to the family and the company, though Maeryanna secretly gave Lynn some money to get the newlywed off her feet. One year later, Lynn gave birth to a son, Vim, and Vinder started the d’Liero Cooking service.
Meanwhile, Cailan inherited Ilmaur Silks 40 years after the Coming of Estarra, married a Dracnari woman named Dira Ikaud five years later, and two years after that, had two sons, Alisster and Dean. These two brothers competed fiercely to be next in line for inheritance, and in the year 65, Alisster became the head of Ilmaur Silks and Clothiers while Dean was appointed head of their silk farm in Dairuchi. Defeated, Dean left Magnagora with his wife Selina Abulet for Dairuchi, and it is there his recorded line ends.
Back on Lynn’s side of the family, Vim d’Liero had taken a Dracnari fiancé as preferred by his mother, and at the age of 17, had a son named Marius. The pressure of such an early family overtook Vim and he committed suicide four years after. Marius had married a Viscanti woman named Tasha i’Mathar, who with which he had a son named Kharvik, and when he was of age he took direct control of d’Liero Cooking from his grandfather and grandmother. However, business began to slack with the repeated successes of competition in the market.
With the reported death of noted businessman Cedric Ilmaur in the year 73, and a little research on the subject, Marius came upon the details of the familial split. He contacted Alisster, who had married a Dracnari woman named Kara Omlarin, and they agreed to bring the families back together under the name d’Ilmaur, to denote a fresh start in Magnagora, and the merging of their two respective companies into d’Ilmaur Trading soon followed. Ihsahn d’Ilmaur was the first of the family directly born into the new name, in the year 79.

First off I have no idea who this family is, nor do I care.....maybe I should.
But the real question, in regards to this quote:
What does this have to do with ideas?

You've just come up with an idea for a new guild, a new skill or how to completely re-design Lusternia to make it a hundred times greater and don't know who to tell? Well, post it here! (Be prepared for feedback!)

I made the family up.
If it's off topic, I'm sure it'll be moved. Family backgrounds seem to be more of a discussed topic here though, this is sort of a tangent.

From what I remember, Estarra came to Lusternia much later than the taint was released. In which case Gaudiguch was already lost. Dairuchi is the village from the survivers of Gaudiguch who fled the city before it was lost.

The time frame from the expulsion of Kethuru to the coming of Estarra was my only real unresolved detail...it's never really mentioned is it? And from what I gathered, Bhodificius had gone to Dairuchi long before Hallifax had attempted Project Crucible.

100ish years afaik

Bodificius left just before the group that initiated Project Crucible entered the Eternal Flame.
As for when Estarra came, I pretty much just assume it was after the Taint wars and the link since that is how the history flows.

Can any of the gods confirm some of these finer history points?

Aside from the exact timeframe between the destruction of Old Celest and the Coming of Estarra, I can tell you most everything you need to know about the history. Just ask. hehe

I think that's all I'd need to know at this point, for my family background at least. It's implied that Estarra came and instantly recognized the threat of Kethuru and the seals, so I can't see it taking too long. Hopefully it's not too big of a timespan, I already have most of the d'Liero side of the family having children at around 20 and under. Though I'm not too much of a slacker when it comes to the history either.

I made up a little tree for no real reason. I'd really like some comments on the history itself though.

Just wanted to toss this back up...hopefully it'll catch the eye of someone willing to respond constructively.

I remember doing something very similar in the (pre?) alpha stages of Lusty, after Magnagora had had its first filthy flagstones installed by the public works Dept. I was a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed builder, eager to somehow work out a little fictional stronghold for the recently invented i'Xiia family, (e.g. Snaikka, the little psycho minx) as writing fiction has become more and more my bread and butter, starting around that time. This was a little project that looked really enjoyable --I wasn't sure that the Powers that Be, Upstairs, would have eventually allowed a player to adopt an npc name, but Aamalaa i'Xiia led a brief yet happy few weeks constructing a family history for a few viscanti families, much like you've done and she thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Yup, keep it up. It'll add to your enjoyment and immersion of the realm, and thats' a reward in itself, innit? Also, you can adapt and extend some of what you've already done for when a possible Bardic compo arrives at your door, if you're so inclined. : )

It's still very much unclear (even to the Elder Gods, who if you remember weren't on Lusternia at the time) how much time passed between the fall of the empire and coming of Estarra. I would suggest that given the state of records between the two periods - incomplete - that you fuzz over that part of your family history for now at least.
Ihsahn2004-11-20 05:21:05
Thank you Auseklis, that's all I wanted.
