I gotta say, it would be really really really nice to be able to hear stuff said on any plane. It'd make sense for an ability to be added somewhere in mythical, or even as a co-trans ability, that allows us to hear things said on any channel we have access to regardless of the speaker's planar skill. It gets reaaaaallly frustrating to hear 10% of the conversations when I'm up in Astral, because so few people have high planar skill..
Make tells not work, just channels. Could be an enhanced sensitivity to the vibrations created by communication.

I just want to be able to hear GNT no matter what plane I'm on. I have groves to keep, pssh.
Indigo2004-10-29 02:12:36
Hmmmmm. How about dividing the Ability into two?
1) (Lower Level) Hear across the planes
2) (Higher Level) Speak across the planes (even to those who aren't normally able to hear across them)
Or is that too complicated?

Nah the hearing should be the high level one.. It's the speaking to everyone that's not all that useful.
Neale2004-10-29 09:48:59
Perhaps GNT should be "special", if someone with less then 21 levels speaks on it, their voice is amplified and can be heard... Other planes -should- be "far away", so I don't really think it would work to make it just like normal, but helping newbies is a good thing.
Kaervas2004-10-29 12:39:43
I was hoping that there would be some sort of skill that lets us listen across all of the planes, maybe they'll end up releasing an artifact that lets us do that.
Unknown2004-10-29 13:32:36
There should be a new guild channel GPT (guild planar talk) that only high ranking people can talk on, but everyone can hear it. Itd suck if your city was under attack but you didnt know just because you cant communicate or listen across planes.
Yepela2004-10-29 13:37:11
I don't agree with the GPT idea. I think the fact that some people might not hear about attacks to the city, or whatever because they're on a far off plane makes the whole concept interesting and different. Granted, it is annoying only to hear snippets of conversations, but I think it should stay that way.
Unknown2004-10-29 13:40:14
the attack on the city thing is just an example, just anything important to the guild should be heard by everyone who needs to hear it

Bah I hope it's not an artifact. It reallly should be a planar thing, it makes sense
If you're trans in Planar, you damn well should be able to hear, *thump Yepela*

Perhaps a city construction with that ability could be added in the future, giving citizens the ability to hear planes.
Unknown2004-10-29 16:23:57
yeah, like a second tame necromentate (just an example)

I don't think that's a good idea. You shouldn't get to hear EVERYONE unless you ahve training, in my opinion
Indigo2004-10-30 00:16:18
How about a city construction which lets you tune in to rival cities' channels?

That's a lovely idea.

I think you guys are missing the logic. It's the strength of the sender that allows him or her to project across multiple planes. It wouldn't make sense for someone weak in planar magic to be able to project their thought-voice across multiple planes. Shortwave, longwave, aetherwave, astrowave and broadcast means the sender has the ability to project his or her thought-voice on vibrations that reach across multiple planes. If you don't have the ability to project to these high vibrations, then they simply don't exist and cannot be heard on faraway planes.
And, no, it's not going to be changed just because it's convenient. If there's no one with strong planar skills on the prime plane, people on the astral will have no way of hearing them on the channels. It's just a fact of transplanar life I'm afraid.
