Safe Rooms

From my experience in other IRE realms, I've noticed that safe areas are -always- abused. I cannot emphasis the "always" enough, here. Anyway, some people actually use them effectively. I like these people. Those that talk trash to someone while hiding in such a place, that is what I'm referring to. I'm just curious as to what everyone thinks about this topic. Let the ranting begin.

I have to agree with pretty much everything here. People run to safe rooms incessantly and it gets obnoxious. Especially when they run their mouths and do stupid things just to go sit in some corner.
Kaervas2004-10-28 20:14:23
How many safe rooms are there? I've only ever noticed the one at the Portal of Fate
Unknown2004-10-28 20:16:25
Only ones I know are the Portal of Fate.....Portals.....I think that's all....are the fulcruxes safe rooms? And of course where the Quiz was held but I don't think that really counts does it?
Unknown2004-10-28 20:18:22
Fulcruxes are saferooms as well as Avechna's peak (where you summon the Avenger). The latter I found out about earlier today.
Kaervas2004-10-28 20:19:34
So far I haven't really seen anyone abuse safe rooms besides those annoying newbies who set off firewalls then run to portals. Though I've seen how badly they can be abused, they should definetely be removed.

PS. Felemar you post way too much tongue.gif

I forgot about Avechna's Peak but I remember when the Event was up there to reveal the Fulcrux, I couldn't call my thrall so you are right there.

I think Safe rooms should be removed, and also graced people should be unable to pick up corpses. I'm looking at you Nucoras

I was able to save myself multiple times by going to the portals room to stay safe. Note, however, that this wasn't legitimate PK; I had just joined the game and had no idea what was happening, and was hiding from those Newbie Firewallers you mentioned, as well as other newbie-killers. Grace of Innocence dosen't seem to be working, also.

What do you mean, not working? I seem to have it every time I log in glare.gif rolleyes.gif Damn squirrels!
Unknown2004-10-28 22:51:01
Odd, because even after it was added I got into a handful of fights with other newbies. Not actual attacking, except in one case, but offensive action still, such as the intimidation skill. Not that it worked too often against a Tae'dae, but it's the thought that counts.
Unknown2004-10-28 23:25:48
well, of course they're abused, it's just for the people like you described...obnoxious, loud-mouthed, and stupid...but that's what snub is for. biggrin.gif
Unknown2004-10-29 02:05:43
I don't like the idea of safe-rooms, it just spoils some fun.
Roul2004-10-29 02:39:55
I don't even pay attention to them. People who start fights and then hide in safe rooms need to be smacked around, but other than that.. I guess they're okay for people who don't want to deal with conflict when someone else is after them.

But then again, that's what the Avenger is for.. so, why bother having safe rooms?
Unknown2004-10-29 03:27:29
Safe Rooms are a must, as far as I'm concerned. Some people just don't want to be involved in combat... I know I've been killed at least once without cause. I'd want safe rooms just to stand around in and read posts when I log in, instead of having to always be looking over my shoulder to see if someone's around to PK me. It's just not a fun playing environment.

I hate PK, so I quickly grow annoyed with MUDs with open PK... I think I'll stay under level 20 here. I have absolutely no reason to fight people. I'm certainly not setting up scripts to handle the dozens of afflictions... I'd just die every 5 minutes here... not my idea of fun.

I'd rather RP fights with people who I'm friends with OOC... not every fight has to end in death or limping away with a severed limb and gallons of blood pouring out, blind, and yelling "I love cheese!"... ... ... *sigh*

So, I'm happy safe rooms exist here.

Edit: Before people say "Go play a MUSH if you don't like PK.", I like bashing monsters, just, not players... I'd rather not ruin someone else's day by killing them and making them loose hard-earned experience.
Unknown2004-10-29 04:51:47
You realise the chances of getting randomly pk'd are slim to none? They're even smaller when you're in your home city. If you get pk'd once, no big deal really, and avenger can handle the rest.
Bau2004-10-29 06:20:05
Slim to none... pshaw. Bau has been PKed once, and she had nothing to do with it.
Unknown2004-10-29 07:05:14
Safe rooms in places like the quiz room or the fulcruxes are fine but anywhere else it just seems sort of lame and stupid. People do abuse them far too much cause theyre just cowards: if youre going to start something - finish it, simple as that
Niara2004-10-29 07:10:27
These random pk morons always pop up in the first week or two but quickly leave again, so noone should worry too much about getting randomly killed.
*remembers this Selim guy*

The horror! People die 654 times more by monsters, yet they're outraged when they die once or twice by a player...really, as long as you stay away from the outter planes, avechna takes away all reasons to play the victim in the prime plane. There is no such thing as "cause" in Lusternia, hence you can't say someone killed you without reason. If they killed you, you either annoyed them, or they just felt like killing you, both are perfectly legitimate reasons.
