If the black widows are big enough to yank a Krokani/Igasho/Tae'dae into the trees....they could be big enough to ride.

OK...I don't want to see Tae'dae riding around on grizzly bears. Thats just too weird.
I wouldn't mind if little guys could ride me, though.

QUOTE (Donnar @ Nov 8 2004, 02:34 PM)
holy crap, i had a helluva idea. As for the rancher's comment (and although it's not original) There can be two skills in the influence skillset. Pacify and tame. Pacify proves ot others oyur beast handling skills, making wild animals lay before your feat. Tame, makes them loyal to you. In order for it to be tamed, it mus tbe pacified first. So, we'd have pacify at..let's say adept, and tame at skilled. and just like influence, it is determined by charisma and uses ego to tame a beast. The bigger and nastier the beast, the harder it is to tame.
Great idea, so much better than lasso.

Great Bat:
-----------
This gargantuan bat is intimidating to say the least. Its large, tapered ears keenly listen to its surroundings, searching for prey or predator, although you find yourself wondering what this beast would be scared of. Its skin is black as night, and two leathery, tattered wings are folded neatly behind its back. Someone has tied a harness on a spot upon its back between the wings - although it would be a bold adventurer who would dare ride this creature.
It weighs approximately 300 pounds.
Scorpia
--------
This massive beast wears a bright red, impregnatable exoskeleton which glistens strangely with various toxic secretions. A long, armoured tail is raised threateningly behind it, the barb of which warns of impending danger.
It weighs approximately 600 pounds.

i like my roan...easy to find but weak as hell!
Unknown2004-11-08 21:41:19
Not just because it's my idea, but i would love to see the pacify and tame thing put in effect. and to clear thing sup, since their wild animals, they are not permenantly yours. they will stick with you until you leave the realms, and then return to their habitat (much like the animals the hunters/sentinels get in other IRE realms) However, in that time, they can be ridden (should they be big enough for your race) and commanded in battle. They would use their same skills as if they were wild. (so, let's say you got a firebreathing dragon that could fly and stuns with a ram as well as a legsweep, it'll do that at random times within battle)
Unknown2004-11-08 21:47:28
Donnar, what happens if you are not successful with pacifying or taming the animal? And would pacify be usable while they are attacking you, to make them stop?
I think riding Tae'daes would be SO AWSOME.
Pretty please?

No no. Just as like all influence skills, your dealt no damage. this, of course, wouldnt be the case if your pacifying an aggressive animal. then you'd be losing health and ego at the same time for obvious reasons. But to pacify and your character would offer scraps of food, make kissing noises, snap your fingers and so forth. to tame, it's a bit riskier. Your character does various soothing techniques to gain the trust of the animal. If pacify fails, the animal runs off and another attempt to pacify it will not work for a period of time. Tame, if you fail to tame it (loss of ego, or what have you) the animal will either run away or attack you. There's a 50-50 chance. And yes and no to your question if they are attacking you. If YOU started the attack, then pacify won't work, since your actions were hostile to the creature. However, it's an aggressive mobile with a bit of intelligenc,e it would realize your no threat, and it would stop attacking apon completion of pacification.
Unknown2004-11-08 22:24:26
I don't think horses attack you in real life if you fail to tame it properly.
Unknown2004-11-08 22:30:33
They might kick you.

I was refering tosomeone a long time ago who said more ideas to come but the boss is comming.
I think furrikin should be able to ride tae'dae but nobody else, MAYBe dwarves
mount ideas:
Elephant, was that suggested allready?
Great Danes
Wolves
slugs
snails
cats
Ents (tree spirits?)
gazelle
pig/hogs
Rhino
thats enough

Yes but we don't want a Rhino or Great Dane in lusternia, we have enough on earth. The other 'mythical' or 'legendary' steeds of old earth mythologies COULD fit, but dogs and huge rhinos dont really.
Unknown2004-11-09 00:29:52
I really like the idea of a giant riding slug for no particular reason I can discern. "Onwards, Lightning!"
Just don't take 'em out on the salt flats.

Daganev2004-11-09 02:40:46
Not every mount has to be some "Uber mythical beast"
I was trying to think of many mounts that would fit into the lower catagory of mount but are still kinda interesting.
I can't imagine an Igasho on any small animal but a rhino.

well, if you have a wild horse, and your riding it for te first time, if you dont tame it properly or know whatcher doin, you can get a nasty arsekickin.
Unknown2004-11-09 08:02:20
No dragons or draconian species... I like to think mages will have them as something special. Geomancers have taint wyrms and Aquamancers have their dragon turtles, and it seems like Pyromancers or the Illuminati or whatever they're called will have wyverns (Wyvern Riders?) - anyone else notice a pattern?
But.
I'd love to see seahorses, lions, anything at all that's not a unicorn or pegasus for the 'Light' side, and perhaps moss-encrusted gargoyles

or chimeras and manticores, too. They'd be nasty for the dark side. And for darker underwater creatures, we have the krakken and shark and stuff.
edit: Maybe sharks wouldnt be "evil" perhaps, sicne i can picture the underwater warriors of celest riding them into battle. Perhaps sharks would be good, and for the darker, eviller citizens of maganorga, we have gigantic morey eels. They can also get the krakken ( an octopus/squid-like being of immense sizes) and for the good side, they can get a hippocampus (half horse, half fish)

Take a look at the various types of wyrm (Taint, lyndwyrm, Ebonglom) and you'll see they're very much not draconic.
Unknown2004-11-09 14:32:59
I think he confused Wyrm with Wurm. If im not mistaken, i think wyrms have insect features and wurms are just legless drakes. Wyrms can be subterranean, wurms cannot.
Auseklis2004-11-09 14:42:32
Well, in lusternia it basically refers to giant worms with or without other Taint-type features.
