Back to The Real World.

I never listen to music while I'm playing or if I do I always forget to change the CD.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds seriously gird my loins.
Radiohead
White Stripes
Kings of Leon
The New Pornographers
the 5,6,7,8's - I Walk Like Jane Mansfield is what the bass guitar was invented for.
Janis Joplin
The von Bondies
Bjork and early Sugarcubes
Led Zeppelin

Heh, reading this thread has made me want to go through my CD collection again. Who mentioned the Cocteau Twins? wub.gif

Who were those people from Kill Bill, in that club thing? I wanted to fly into the TV and murder them, then dilute their vials, and then fossilize their remains!

Who mentioned the Cocteau Twins?  wub.gif

I remember my first time.

Imagine an endlessly sunny day sometime in July 1988, a good year for looking great in your mahogany skin, but you're under a roof of glass in a tropical nursery this early afternoon. Your senses are already painfully aware of the true magnificence of (potted) nature -orchids of a dozen species are releasing their heady scent into a humid environment, florescences of scarlet and vermillion punctuate swathes of swordlike leaves all around you and Spanish moss forms victorian net curtains in festoons. Your skin begins to react to the pervasive and deeply sensuous blanket of light and heat; perhaps you'll grab a hose and shower down, right there in your shorts or maybe you'll seek shade in dappled sunlight somewhere. You're already feeling tuned to an inner crescendo of something building, building...

And then to add to this panorama of heady awareness, someone very kindly places 'Tiny Dynamine' on the CD player, the speakers of which have been placed in quadraphonic arrangement in each greenhouse (there are four such).

'Pink, Orange, Red' is the perfect introduction to a love affair. A '12-string guitar arrangement that's so rich it'd stop a diabetic at ten paces' is only the start of your first ever journey through the ice-flows and cloud formations that'll forever be a soundtrack for the perfect, stolen, moments of your future. By 'Eggs and Their Shells', the body is in shuddering hypnotic spasm and the mind is bludgeoned senseless by something that's all about beauty, but an indefinable one that somehow beggars an accurate description in mere words.

Yes, you've spent your last X years half-asleep. Now you're -aware- of the Immortal and elusive Muse -She who inspires Shamans and Poets, Hermits and Visionaries.

How was it for you?

Like hearing the voices of angels. Heh, have you ever read any of their lyrics sheets though? Some of their european imports had them included.

There was a contribution of theirs to a 4AD compilation that got me hooked and after a temporary period awake I'm now digging out my old records and fluffing the pillows for another long slumber.

Until her post-motherhood years (1990) when identifiable words were sometimes heard, Liz Fraser didn't consider her voice as a vehicle for lyrics, per se. Yup, whole sites are dedicated to translating her words, and most are, frankly, silly to have even tried:

Here's one that does have recogniseable words though, in Latin (they're butterfly Genera)

The Japanese girls from Kill Bill that did the cover of 'I Walk Like Jane Mansfield' are called The 5,6,7,8's.

Believe it or not, they're *incredible* live - the sight of three calm Japanese girls going absolutely nuts on stage tends to get people dancing like mad. Much better than in the movie smile.gif.

As for artists - brief and random selection from the pile of 12"s, CDs, MDs, and other assorted promos and stuff lying on my desk at the moment...

Moby ft Public Enemy
Disco D ft Princess Superstar (very nice booty house, title's a bit explicit for here, though)
Timo Maas
Felix Da Housecat
DJ Marky (or anything on V Recordings or Movement, for that matter)
The Superjesus
Aqualung

Standout tunes (or rather, the last few I played):

The Streets - It's Too Late (High Contrast Remix)
Tok Tok ft Nena - Bang Bang (Tocadisco's Don't Fake the Break Remix)
Goldie Lookin Chain - Soap Bar
Congo Natty ft Top Cat - Police in Helicopter
Björk - Where Is The Line
Nina Simone - Feeling Good
Adam F ft Redman - Smash Sumthin' (Roni Size Mix)

Bit random, really tongue.gif

I do have to shamefully admit I found that song about cyber sex at least slightly amusing.

On a side note, Damn it! Damage Plan, Drowning Pool, Hed P.E. and some other band I haven't heard of are coming here on the 11th and I want to go see the show *sniffle*

*edit- Oh! And Dyr, I know over half of them happy.gif

A ska fan, I see. There was a Reel Big Fish show here last night. I once saw Catch-22 opening for the Bosstones as well.

Mmm...music...

Lacuna Coil's also really good, if you like heavier music that isn't entirely in English.
