You get the same exact results if you use either of our methods.

Faeling: 4*6 inches= 2 feet
        4/2= 2 feet

Human:  12*6 inches= 6 feet
        12/2= 2 feet

Of course, 6 inches is 1 half foot. 12 * 1/2foot = 12 * 6iches...

Sorry, off topic. I think this would be awsome. However, how would wind work? If you were hovering, could you get blown by the wind?
Just something to think about.
Elryn2004-11-14 02:36:42
Personally, I'd like to think that wind really doesn't affect someone hovering just above the ground too much, its only when you get much higher (ie, the treeline and above) that wind gets strong enough to affect you. After all, I've never seen someone pushed over by the wind on the ground, even faelings.

Maybe in near-blizzard conditions trying to move while hovering could have a small random chance of not working - for example:

'You fly at full speed into the gale but are driven back by the biting wind.'

By the way, it would be fun if while hovering the entry and exit messages of your movement are changed to reflect it. smile.gif

Well, if the wind stops you from talking, I would think it would have some effect on airborn faelings.... Much less than someone in the trees, or someone actually flying, but it might be able to stop movement or blow you, even if it is rare.
Just my two gold.
Elryn2004-11-14 04:15:54
Aye, you're probably right, but then if hovering becomes like climbing or flying is now, even to a lesser degree, its going to lose any sort of usefulness that it might have had. I don't mind balancing advantages with disadvantages, but this would be a -huge- disadvantage, and make it totally inappropriate for any sort of communication, combat, influencing, or other activity that occupies a single room.

I wonder if there is there some way that wind could affect a hovering person in a more passive way?
Unknown2004-11-14 04:20:21
blow them into a prone pistion?
Elryn2004-11-14 04:41:42
Well, that's still something that would make hovering dangerous. It also makes RP'ing yourself as capable rather difficult when you fall out of the air every few minutes. wink.gif
Unknown2004-11-14 04:45:31
true. what if the wind blew us into another room?
Elryn2004-11-14 04:48:47
Aye, thats what Dyr suggests.
Unknown2004-11-14 05:00:52
or it could knock us off balance and equilbrium for a brief period of one second. like how a balloon is thrown about in the wind.
Elryn2004-11-14 05:11:11
I wonder how the wind affects those with levitation enchantments? Hovering shouldn't be much different, I imagine.
Unknown2004-11-14 05:21:39
I would think levetation and hovering should be the same thing, for all intents and purposes. Different name, possibly different text for moving, but acts the same.

Losing balance for a second or two would be a great Idea. With really strong winds, then other things could happen, like falling to the ground (no bones breaking, though), or being blown to a different room.

What about an updraft? Being blown up, just to fall down again? Sounds dumb, but I can see it being an Aeromancer ability biggrin.gif
Elryn2004-11-14 05:45:05
Moving us around easier with skills I don't have a problem with, but I really don't like the thought of the wind actively making hovering a disability, either by random movement or random eq/bal loss.

Mind you, none of the Divine have shown an interest yet, so all of this is just hypothetical. biggrin.gif
Unknown2004-11-14 05:58:42
eh......it's always hypothetical until results are actually shown.
Unknown2004-11-14 07:34:15
I'd like to see wind fixed, before anyone suggest wind affecting us in a bad way any more than it already does.
Unknown2004-11-14 17:50:10
Yeah. Wind should be toned down. But these are just ideas, for the future. Hopefully if these ever are implemented, wind would be toned down first.

Yep, I agree.  I was a faeling for a good couple of months and my description read that I was hovering before you, glittery wings flittering or whatever.  Sure it worked for roleplay but in game mechanics I was still screwed.  Certainly don't think getting a leg broken should of effected me.  Oh well, not a faeling anymore so who cares, hehe.

-incoherent mumble about falling out of trees-

Though you probably could still fly if you break your legs, it would be painful, no? Hovering involves some bobbing up and down, thus jarring the limbs. But I support the hovering stance, since it IS kinda hard to trip someone who's in the air.
tarquin2004-11-20 19:26:58
I think you can fly up in the air, even if your legs are broken, so it shouldn't effect hovering
Hazar2004-11-22 06:17:45
A faeling is essentially an Elfen with Fae blood. Although most people seem to play really short, long-winged pixielike faelings, it is entirely possible for there to be taller ones more along the lines of preteens with wings (now there's a scary thought). This could be logic for why Fae can hit people's heads and the like.
Elryn2004-11-24 06:14:17
You could be right Hazar, but I think the Faeling race is characterised by our tiny size, regardless of individual shape or form. We are all classed as size 4, gaining the benefits/disadvantages therein, so it makes sense to operate under the assumption we are all small.

Oh, and if we flyers do get to hover, my next crusade will be for more appropriate laughing styles. dry.gif I think its quite bizarre that a deep, rumbling laugh pops out of a tiny Faeling.
Unknown2004-11-24 06:18:58
Perhaps the wings act as resonators?
