Can the Divine please not make Events posts with blatently incorrect information, particularly where it's obviously going to cause political uproar? It's a bit infuriating to have something like an Events post completely wrong when so many people count on them for information that's supposed to be accurate, and when its not people will act on it anyways, seeing as they have no way of knowing to the contrary. There are at least three false pieces of information in the newest Events posts, each of which is extremely politically sensitive, and it would really do the Divine well to talk to those involved to make sure their information isn't off base.

Thank you.
Qaletaqa2004-11-07 06:14:30
I thought they were accurate except for myself being a disciple of the Crow.
Unknown2004-11-07 06:48:04
And the whole balance between Magnagora and Celest tipping between the two... though it was nice of them to save Celest's face (what little remains heh) and say that instead of saying: Celest got owned from the first raid to the end

Tried to RP and pull Qaletaqa's ass out of the flame, got a 48 hour truedisfavour. Wishing I'd just let him get sacrificed at this point.
Oh well, 46 hour break hooah.

Oh, dear. Now I've gone and become all curious as to what the original posts said.

Well....everyone knows the Gods write the Events posts, should have been nicer.

Events posts arn't exactly IC. Thats kinda why they are anonymous. Its more like a "Last time on Lusternia turns"
Unknown2004-11-07 09:51:39
No, events are IC. It's Announce posts that are OOC.
The whole anonymous thing is, I think, it's supposed to be written by some Chronicler or Scribe in some Divine Library. After all, why would a God really write up mortal affairs?

Daganev2004-11-07 10:39:03
Then why arn't they written by Scribey, the World's chronicaler.... Divine inhabit the bodies of Ic charachters all the time.
Unknown2004-11-07 10:50:40
Because there isn't an actual NPC for him, as far as I'm aware. There are millions of people living in the world of Lusternia, there isn't a mobile for each and every one of them.
And it doesn't say, "Scribey, the world chronicler" because it's meant to be mysterious, I assume. Some secret underground prophet cult who chronicles the world's history. Although any Divine that knows different is welcome to correct me.

Consider events posts as the gossip that people in the villages hear, rather than an exact representation of facts.
And after all, isn't all history just opinion?

Qaletaqa, as far as I know, just popped in at the end to give us all drinks. I laughed when I saw he was included in the post...

It's all very well and good to say that, but whereas a public post is written by a named mortal and most people will sensibly take it with a grain of salt, everyone knows that the events posts are written anonymously by one god or another...and while naturally no one is perfect, we expect a certain degree of objectivity and accuracy from the gods when they write as The Voice From On High. Events posts are taken as the "official" account largely because they are anonymous and god-written. If this is not your intent, then the only ways I can think of to counter this perception are to either put a disclaimer before the post or (better yet) have a mortal write the account and affix his name to it.
Most of us only learn that events posts writers aren't very concerned with accuracy from painful experience- ie after we participate in an event and discover that the events post about it is inaccurate in some degree. This was a constant pet peeve of mine in Achaea, such that I started making my OWN accounts of things, so when I told people that a certain events post was inaccurate I had a version that corrected the glaring errors and ommissions in the events post. Naturally a named mortal, even one writing objectively, can never be completely accurate and objective, because as you say, history is largely a matter of opinion (or maybe "point of view" would be a better description than opinion). But at least we would be prepared to take this into account if the writer of a historical account was named and his account not given the air of an official proclaimation.

OOCly we know that, ICly we don't. At least in theory. Was a gamble, didn't work
Auseklis2004-11-07 20:30:54
You've got to remember that most of us are actually running the event at the time... and none of us are quite willing to go around either asking every player what they saw happen or going through logs of everything that was said afterwards. It's our view of things at the end of the day, and yeah some people are going to get left out and some things aren't going to seem like exactly what happened. Sorry, but there's not a lot we can do about it.
Richter2004-11-08 06:24:00
The guys that served drinks was included, and the I wasn't? *sob*
Oh well. I'll make it to an events post somehow, even if I have to blow up the world.

Is it so important for you, Richter, to appear in an event post?
Unknown2004-11-08 14:01:03
Heh! Drachius made an events post in Imperian.......my only one to date, but I can live without making another.

Hey, some of us like the recognition! I've been in 2 Achaean events posts, 1 Lusternian events post, a couple of Aetolian, and 1 Achaean helpfile (help dun_history)
Nothing wrong with wanting glory
