I'm just curious what people think about this.
I realise that checking and approving designs is a lot of work, and considering that a Lusternian year is roughly two weeks, it may be plenty of work already, considering the different types of tradeskills to go through.
But, it would really boost the designs that we could do, if we could submit, say, a design for the subcategory *Shoes, and also a design for the subcategory *Coats. Or whatever your subcategories are for your cartel.
Suggestions? Thoughts?

i think its horrible that alot of the designs put in are so ...crappy...and still get through...like this whole skull on a stick = mace...

Undecided... it's hard to tell at this point. My initial thought is that, considering I have yet to receive any ideas for this year's Diamondlight cartel design, one is enough, especially since it's 5k to submit.
I do think eventually it will be something people will ask for. The number of public patterns we can submit now (20/year for jewelry, I don't know about the other trades) offsets the fact that building a base of cartel designs is a slow process. Things are still new. But when the influx of new public designs slows down, I imagine people will perk up and ask for more cartel designs. Personally I like the idea of just one (maybe two) per year; it lends a bit of prestige to those designs and really requires they be something of quality.
Plus, yes, it's less work for the admins and things can get approved faster.

It cant be _all_ that much work to look over designs, can it?
If it is, we can be patient while the god review the designs at their leisure.
More designs means happier everyone

I think it's fine, I just want some people to create some decent clothes. Come on guys, make some green baggy pants and a golden cloak with a clasp on the front in the shape of a stag, I've been nekked for too long.

Well.. it wouldn't be, except you have a bunch of people who either don't understand the design rules or just don't understand English who go around submitting designs. Trying to explain (nicely) what's wrong and mailing it back to them takes time. Then even experienced designers make small mistakes, so those have to be found, which takes time, and then fixed which is usually at least easy. And then you have to explain, again, to people who don't understand English, why you rejected thier design. After all that, you get to explain why a bunch of "crud" designs got through at previous points in time.
Anyway, it all adds up.

As I understand it, Cartels can submit unlimited public designs, but only one custom design for their cartel per year. Am I far off, or is this just about right?
Daganev2004-11-09 02:21:11
It says 20, but I've never seen it say 19 when we submitted one.. and Whats wrong with a skulled mace? Or have you not looked at the description and like so many others complain without information
Daganev2004-11-09 02:22:11
Also, I think it would be better for these first two years to have 20 cartel designs and then switch it to public. Far too many of these public designs seem awefully specific.. like the shield with Isune's name on it.
Nementh2004-11-09 06:54:33
It says Warrior of the Moon (Lunaris Proeliator) and 'Isune Devoveo Regina' which should of been 'Regina Isune Devoveo' but since the person who edited it on my end thought he knew more latin then he did, and I didn't catch it before it was submited, means loosly 'Follower of Lady Isune' I submited it public because I beleive all weapons and armour themed after a divine are public knowledge. Hence the 'White gold falcon morning star' (Isune) and the 'Elequent Silver Rapier' (Lisaera) Most of the stuff I design outside of direct themes will be connected to Isune in someway as that is who Nementh follows.
Just like ur'Guard design skull maces, etc...

don't know... I think there is a difference between taste in fashion, and taste in religion.
I've not designed many demonic themed things because I thought they would get rejected from public and be asked to be made private. Plenty of Serenwilders might use the skull of a dead lion for something, and plenty of Celestians will not have a problem with a little mobid stuff. Also, only decided to make the skull after I saw the shield.

Having a public shield that says 'Follower of Lady Isune' is pretty well the worst thing I've heard from the design front. Anyone and their brother's uncle can churn out a shield that affiliates itself with Isune now. Only a private forging cartel for Isune's order should have been allowed this shield, making it public is powerful dumb. Now I'm off to design The Emperor of Magnagora's Official Crown for public, no reason we can't have 50 of those floating around.

As a Trademaster, I wish we could submit more. Seriously.
But what it does do is force the Trademaster to think for a long time about which recipe they're going to submit. If you only get one chance, then you probably are going to spend a lot of time editing it, and making it uber-yummy.
Just a thought.

Hmm, well, if we can submit up to 20 public designs per year, then that would give my creative juices a real chance to flow. I just have to keep in mind when designing things that if they're public, everyone can make them, not just my cartel-mates. Thank you, Lord Fain, for pointing that out.

If I can get off my fat lazy Merian butt, I might start submitting Diamondlight entries. We need some more jewelry! Can never have too many designs, especially with all the "worthless" gems going around (if someone can find me a use for the 20 some coral I have, I would greatly appreciate it, and NO vial suggestions)

Of course I call Him "Lord Fain." He may not be able to zap or shrub me here for a lack of common respect, but He can probably disable my account! Not that I think He would, but you never know.
Speaking of which, I'm surpised that a certain poster's account hasn't be deactivated yet, with his lack of common respect for others, but then, that's meant for another thread.

As a co-trademaster of a private cartel, and owner of the Black Market, I'd like to see me be able to submit as many designs as possible. I mean, every time I go shoe shopping, I don't have only five to choose from (with one of them being "I love Isune" shoes *wink*). In the real world (which I know Lusternia doesn't resemble, and will not) people and companies submit designs all the time, and are only limited by thier funding, cooperation, and brainpower.

There use to be a coral necklace but that disappaered. A few people still have one though. It is just retired I believe.

We don't want gods spending all their timing aproving designs
But I do think we should have a RL weak to submit as many designs as we can think of for PUBLIC use, and have some of those chosen.. I'm sure a day or two after that weak of just doing designs shouldn't take THAT long
