Planar Rifts

Planar rifts can exist between two layers of Planes

Prime > Ethereal > Elemental > Cosmic > Astral

However, why not allow them to exist between the same layers?

Prime > Prime, Etheral > Etheral, Elemental > Elemental..

While it would have little effect on the Ethereal Plane..

Or even the Prime, with the use of paintings.

It could add another dynamic with the Elemental and Cosmic Planes

Thoughts?

I'd like that. Paintings or not, I think planar rifts have more coolness about them. I also think there should be something in planar allowing you to tesseract to any plane...or something resembling it.

I think it is much cooler that they have to travel between planes. If they worked as you describe, its basically wormholes skill for everyone...if people have to go off plane and travel a distance, it increases the risk for the trip, as well as the time. Plus, it allows for more conflict around them...if the 'keepers' of, say, the ethereal plane don't want you to have rifts in the prime, they can unravel what they see on the ethereal, really tying you down.

It also makes a market for the paintings that probably would not exist if you could just make rifts.

Travel is already cheap enough, I think the constraints currently in place are a good balance of allowing a lot of travel without making it too easy.

Except I wish warriors had some way to get out of the elemental/cosmic/astral planes when the archways are distorted sad.gif I hate bugging nihilists or geomancers to come grab me because I'm stuck otherwise. I guess someone has to get the short end of the transportation stick.

Okay..

To keep commerce for Paintings, and avoid seeming like IRE wormholes.

We can make it a new type of Gateway
that only works between the Same Planar 'Skin', but not the same Continent.

Thus negating the ability to use them on Ethereal/Prime

But add in the ability to use them to cross Nil/Celestia, Water/Earth (and eventually Fire>Earth>Water>Earth>etc.

It would increase conflict, and they may not even be able to be used often, as I'm sure both Nihilists and Celestines would rip them apart

But it'd be interesting nonetheless.

I highly doubt anyone would put up a rift between Nil-Celestia.

Aye, it'd take too long. I'm sure someone goes up there more than every 15 minutes, so it'd basically be one person going up via earth using Nexus in planar, linking to Celestia for 15 minutes, raiding with easy transport, then spending half an hour ripping it up again. Wouldn't really be worth it. But, I suddenly like the idea of tesseracting to the same planar layer. And if Hallifax ended up allying with Magnagora or Celest or whatever, it'd be nice to be able to transport between their two elements. Lastly, there needs to be some sort of means for Serenwilders without Nexus in planar to actually get to the Astral without having an escort. Bah.

As much as I almost don't want it to be true, I think these limitations are done that way very much on purpose. I need to pass through the Ethereal to get to Earth (and therefore everywhere else I want to go) without catching a ride from a Nihilist or Geomancer. That gives me reason not to want to be hunted by Serenwilders if I can help it. The Seren need assistance or good relations to get to Astral, which limits the extent to which they can completely close themselves off as the most self-reliant political and economic entity.

I think the limitation on warriors traveling is also intentional.
