What a great message thread. I hadn't really thought too much into RL role-models for any character I've had, although they have all been totally different characters so maybe I do.
I think maybe the Machiavelian character could sit as easily in Celest as in Magnoria, given the recent tussles for power.
Also, ironically, the paladin crusader would probably sit better in Magnoria if you can imagine New Celest as a Constantinople or Jerusalem facing assault from ruthless warriors under orders from a self-imposed god-head.
I think there is a lot in the New Testament, Acts springs to mind, that could give inspiration to a New Celestian. Although it's probably a major sin to even consider the two things linked.
Nietzsche would be a good influence on Magnorians, stripping down of moral values to create a race that stands above all other mortals - the uber-viscanti.
I can't think of any parallels a city like New Celest might have with real life, but Magnoria puts me in mind of early fascist Japan - fervently imperialistic with room for divine leadership. Kita Ikki could be an inspiration.

For Malevius, I would have to say that he's honestly a lot like me. Including his ideals of honor (though in some ways I could probably say that those ideals before hand came to me through morals I developed on my own and from the old ideals of honor from Knights and Samurai.) He is different than me in some regards however, but I haven't entirely defined everything about him yet.
He actually dislikes group combat though he has taken part in it. (Aspects of honor and duty for Magnagora may conflict some.)

Roark,
I'm not entirely certain of one of the two philosophies you say are followed, but I do keep thinking 'Voltaire' is the other. Any accuracy there?

Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities
I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it.
If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.
You despise books; you whose lives are absorbed in the vanities of ambition, the pursuit of pleasure or indolence; but remember that all the known world, excepting only savage nations, is governed by books.
It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong.
It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.
Voltaire-
I based my character Typhus off of some of his most famous quotes since it seemed to fit him. He yells about nonsense, works against the flow of government, and sought upheaval. One of the more interesting characters I've played. He isn't just like Voltaire, some of his important ideals are based around him.
For my other character-
It's not true that life is one damn thing after another; it is one damn thing over and over.
Edna St. Vincent Millay
Life is a long lesson in humility.
James M. Barrie
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power
Abraham Lincoln
You can tell a lot about a fellow's character by his way of eating jellybeans.
Ronald Reagan
I love basing a traveling, faithful, humble preacher idea off of these. You can gain such a large understanding on how a character would act with a few qoutes posted to your comp tower. Larcosis would do all in his power to fight the Taint, but the Judge is to whom he pledges and it is the Judgement he seeks to bestow with wisdom and humility.

Sorry - I couldn't help modifying that. My RP inspirations are from a heap of sources - from old Achaeans I knew to my 8th grade Religious Education teacher.

Raistlin to me is the single greatest "bad guy" ever created in a fantasy book.
I would have to agree.
Unknown2004-11-20 15:56:35
You know, I never saw Raistlin as a bad guy.
I haven't really set a firm basis for my character RP wise. I would say there are strands of Celtic Christianity and Celtic Paganism in him though.

I can't lay a precise influence for Mary other than "chipper and weird," but my alternate character is grooming herself after the mindset of an SS trooper. It's an interesting change.
And Roark, will You hurt me for occasionally referring to You OOCly as the God of Ayn Rand?

I do not mind. During closed beta, my warcry when testing the Bonecrusher ability that inserts your warcry in the text was, "By the wrath of Ayn Rand!" But Roark is more than just that. He borrows from two other historical figures and mixes them all up. His personality, personal values, world view, and emotions are completely astray from Ayn Rand even if his epistomology derives from hers.

I have not read Voltaire, but from what I have heard of him I suspect he is similar to a couple of my historical influences, such as the Ayn Rand one someone already identified.

Hmm Chade,
RP Influences, well as I've said before I'm not an excellent RPer too much time in Achaea I have to admit, but I'm getting better.
Take a lot of influence from my Achaean, old school Druid, and when I say old I mean old, who went to Ashtan after he was outguilded, joined the Sentinels just after Woodlore came in, remained in Ashtan and finally went Occultist.
Chade however has a much more, scheming and political bent to my Achaean, still quite congenial though.
I enjoy being friendly and I bring that out in Chade, take a lot of influence from myself.
Oh, who the hell is Galt, HELP AVENGER scares me, Galt is out to get meeeeeee.

i'm currently in the works for my hopefully, last character. He'll be a drcnari, his name will most likely be blut or some other german word for a name. he's going to be extremely aggressive, and highly mentally unstable with mood swings. picture......wolverine....crossed with....the butcher from diablo, and he was sexually abused by his parents growing up....that's what he's like. a cold blooded (no pun intended) killer that is meaner than an immobile rat sutck on an ant hill.

That is kind of how I have based Laneth. Since I have not done a lot of MUDing I thought keeping it simple, for now, would let me concentrate on just getting a solid character working.
I might play with 'wierder' rp styles later on (then again, I'm pretty damn wierd).
