For those not staying updated, Haruhi Season 2 stuff is gradually being released.
Unknown2009-06-12 23:15:40
Isn't it mixed with the old stuff somehow? How does it work, is it season 1 and then new episodes? What should I be watching? Confusing.
Unknown2009-06-12 23:21:33
They're just releasing it in chronological order, releasing 'new' episodes when appropriate. The next new ep is due like this week or next week.
Shiri2009-06-13 02:40:38
It's pretty annoying to try and keep track but the first "new" episode was good as a standalone, so whatever.

Yeah... I guess I'll pass till it's all out.

I'm watching Clannad After Story now. I very much liked the first season, but the second one somehow got so depressing now that it's hard for me to watch. sad.gif

Haha, been a while since I posted here.

Eyeshield 21. Just finished it, was awesome, though everyone has mixed feelings about the last tournament/the ending, it seems. Personally, I'm happy with it.

Soul Eater. Just started watching it, so I'm only on episode 5. Umm... I hear it's good! It looks good so far, too.

Favorite anime...lessee.

Trinity Blood is at the top of my list right now. I know both cyberpunk and vampires have been done before in anime (maybe cyberpunk vampires too), but somehow Trinity Blood manages to weave a truly compelling story with such tried and true themes. It also seems a bit more intelligent than most other anime I've seen. And I got my dad (currently in his late-50's) into it (and through it into anime as a whole...his gateway drug, hehe). That's saying something.

Noein is fascinating to me, because it somehow manages to combine two disparate elements - Matrix-like cyberpunk plot and themes, with teen drama. Somehow, it works. Don't ask me how the makers managed to pull it off, but they did. So while I normally loathe and despise teen drama anime (or really teen drama anything), for Noein I make an exception.

Gantz I only have the first season of, but from what I've seen I'm anxious to see more. Yeah, sometimes it gets repetitive with its wanton character-killing and bludgeoning you over the head with its themes, but to me it's kinda like Fight Club.

Hardly a masterpiece but it's fun, good animation, kinda grotesque style here and there.

While I agree on Noein and Gantz (btw, both seasons of anime cover only about 80 out of 301, as of now, chapters of manga. And the beginning with the onion aliens is not exactly the greatest part of it), I consider Trinity Blood rather mediocre (the opening song is just awesome though). Didn't impress me at all.

Best anime other than FMA I've found in the Soul Eater genre was Kekkaishi. I even read the manga for it (which I never do because manga is horrible.)
Unknown2009-06-18 03:47:25
For some reason I much prefer the style of Soul Eater over, say, Code Geass and Gundam 00. It must be all of the chapters of One Piece I've read.
Shiri2009-06-18 03:57:53
I don't count Code Geass and Gundam 00 as the same genre, btw, just the demographic. I can totally understand preferring the style over Code Geass with all the CLAMP noodle people flying around (even though I don't feel that way), so.
Unknown2009-06-18 04:41:54
Heh, Soul Eater seemed unimpressive to me. The plot felt as slow as Naruto biggrin.gif

To me, Code Geass is awesome, and my favourite anime. Lots of action, twisted plot, yum.

Just watched To Aru Majutsu no Index.
I liked it - nice animation, good balance between action and slower moments. Plot is not exactly original or refreshing, but it's decent. Overall, it's not boring.
But there are moments when it gets just ridiculous, for example:

When Touma loses his memory, he decides to pretend he didn't. He gets the knowledge about himself and events from before his memory loss from one overheard conversation? And he manages to pull it off and fool everybody. On top of that, he doesn't even seem to be bothered too much about it. Riight...

Or when he was fighting the alchemist, and lost his arm. Touma manages to do a performance and intimidate and confuse him, with his entire arm blown off. Apparently, the blood loss and shock are way overrated.
After that whole event, his arm gets reattached in a hospital. No problem, really. He's up and kicking in literaly no time.

That show tried wayyyyyyyyyyy too hard. And fell flat on its face.
Unknown2009-06-28 22:14:35
Why did you drop Clannad AS?
Shiri2009-06-29 03:05:03
I couldn't muster the energy to finish it, needed hard drive space (for something that didn't work, doh) and don't expect myself to bother finishing it later.
