Well, visual art evokes many different things in the viewer. We all see the same lines and colours, sure, but you can't really expect everyone to see or comprehend your work exactly as you do. Perception, perception...

Your work is interesting to say the least!

I enjoy reading bardics more than look at artisanals. It fills the void that the Histories have left (Yes, Estarra. We crave for more.)

I enjoy reading the bardics more than I enjoy looking at the artisanals. I think writing is more about interpretation than visual art is. It's easy to look at a portrait and say "ooh pretty", but writing takes some investment on behalf of the reader. Plus I just find something inherently magical about the notion two people can look at the same sentence and each take something different away from it.

I won't point out the Irony of the Bardic winner and a couple of the other merits.

Visual art really does take just as much interpretation as writing. Art is just more accessible to more people than reading. So yeah, more people can say, "ooh pretty" to art because they can glance at it and still get some idea what the visual art is about. Finding a deeper meaning in art can be just as difficult as it is for writing. The first look will give you an initial feel for the visual art, and this is what most people go by when judging/interpreting artwork. Depending on the skill of the visual artist there may be many different stories/interpretations that can be given in one single piece of art. Sometimes a visual artist wont always see everything they put into their painting. Writing usually take more conscious effort when adding more meaning to their art form. There are many different things that a visual artist can use to create more meaning in an artwork including: gesture, colour interactions, line quality and size, expression, details, etc. Two different people can look at a painting and describe it as having two different meanings.

Unfortunately with the artwork done for Lusternia a lot of that deeper meaning may never come into the mind of the artist. This is usually due to time restraints. I've done both writing and visual artwork and I can honestly say that out of the two visual art takes longer for the same quality of work. I think that's what you are seeing. A more complex and subversive quality in the writing. I wouldn't give up on the artwork for Lusternia just yet. We have a lot of artists that just need time to develop their skills and take the time to add a little deeper meaning.


Also... I'd like to add a kudos to Jozen for wining merit twice in a row for a self portrait. Enter a self portrait again this month I want to see how many months in a row you can win just drawing Jozen.

I wonder what the judges would think if -everyone- submitted a portrait of a given player for a given month. We should totally organize something like that, just for giggles.

Did I forget to submit in October or something..? I didn't even get a merit, which is odd when you consider that I got one for Lunatic Poetry.

Visual and written works both have their merits and drawbacks. It's sad though, because since the written word takes so much effort to enjoy, it's hard to get feedback on your work, and thus even more difficult to improve.

Makes me sad, but I ain't gonna give up. Still got lots more to write and share.

I can give feedback! I'm just kind of strapped for time, so I rarely have time to give anyone feedback on their work. If there is something you (or anyone else) would like feedback on don't be afraid to ask!

Man, are bardics super early! Woot. I like Zurmogg's artisanal! Haven't read Thul's thing yet, though.
