My other issue (though it's a smaller one) with it is that behind every character willing to do something there's always got to be a spark in the person playing them that makes them do it, all the sick things writtens by horror authors, all the crazy shenanigans people get up to, they all come from somewhere, don't they? It's why I marvel at people like Jigan who can make someone random and entertaining, because I don't think I could do that, It's why I'm slightly creeped out by the people that think up the weirder, creepier things to do, baby rituals, brothels and incest. It was your idea to do it and you went along and did it, it IS a reflection on you.

I just find it interesting how it's accepted to slaughter entire villages of denizens and their children for gold/experience, carry corpses around like pocket change, behead each other and whatever else. But the second a harem opens up the entire Basin has a spontaneous wave of moral conscientiousness.

True, but then the game was designed to make it rewarding to do those things, you're practically encouraged, at no point do I think the designers took a step back and thought 'Hmm, now how to make it harem-friendly'

Well, in a fantasy world those are the things that minors/children expect to find. There are countless children fantasy books with these themes - they don't really expect to find a brothel.

In numerous cultures throughout history, prostitutes were a legal, socially acceptable, and sometimes even honored segment of society. (The Aztec and Maya in particular spring to mind.) Today, there are at least a few notable European countries with legalized sex industries.

Generally speaking, modern Western values dictate that prostitution is inherently dirty, wrong, and immoral. It's taboo, and like taboos the world over, no amount of intellectual discourse will dissuade most people from seeing it as such. Personally, I don't believe prostitution is inherently dirty, wrong, or immoral, but we're pretty much stuck with the culture we're born into, so my opinion doesn't count for much.

And yes, violence is far more socially acceptable than sex, at least in the United States. Observe:

"Nyarlathotep seized the man's head and twisted, displaying unspeakable, superhuman strength. With a terrible, meaty ripping sound, the man's head was ripped free of his neck. As the lifeless, gore-spattered body fell face-forward into the dusty street, Nyarlathotep hurled the severed head into an alley, blood spraying in its wake."

Now, that's more-or-less okay. Heck, it reads a lot like a Lusternian death message. Had I just described a graphic lovemaking scene, however, I'd be in trouble.

That's just how it is, for some reason. I blame the past 1,500 years of Western history or so.

For enlightenment, or not?

I won't promise enlightenment, but I do promise vicious beatings, racism, and sociopathy. Well, unless that would bring you enlightenment. Then I cannot help your sick, sick mind.

Also, keep in mind kiddies, sex can wait! Mudsterbate!

My only real issue with the whore house is that, well, we know about it. It's a business, it needs to advertise, it DOES advertise, but we're supposed to keep things like that under raps and in private for the young people that are about, aren't we? I don't wanna know about it, and I'm kinda judging the people that actually pay for it (though if you can con someone into paying you for that more power to you).

My other issue (though it's a smaller one) with it is that behind every character willing to do something there's always got to be a spark in the person playing them that makes them do it, all the sick things writtens by horror authors, all the crazy shenanigans people get up to, they all come from somewhere, don't they? Though by no means am I saying that that makes you or anyone else that does the weirder things a bad person, we've all got slightly darker aspects hidden away.

Anyway, Reiha! Marry me!

Lawliet is Celestian IRL.
